Job Summary

Position requires candidate to be adept in the activities of the drafting and design workers supervised and assist engineers with plan analysis, project design/review and preparing written correspondence to clients, developers and governmental agencies. Candidate is also responsible for meeting with clients for purpose of development of additional work, project initiation, scheduling, coordination, issue resolution and ensuring customer satisfaction. This position is also responsible for supervising and coordinating of activities of staff engaged in one or more drafting and design jobs; recommending measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product; suggesting process change to improve working conditions, process flow, and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the department and employees are a fundamental role; studying production schedules and estimating staff hour requirements for completion of projects on time; establishing or adjusting work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge of capacities of CAD machines and software. As the first-line supervisor for drafting work groups, candidate interprets Firm policies to workers, conducts prospective employee interviews, recommends hiring, firing and promotion decisions, interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers and assign duties.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Attend customer project meetings
  • Work with Project Engineers to create bid documents
  • Meet with clients to establish design standards
  • Analyzing and resolving staff issues and problems
  • Initiating or suggesting plans to motivate staff to achieve work goals
  • Recommending or initiating personnel actions, for example promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures
  • Interviewing and training of new staff members
  • Maintaining time and production records
  • Estimating revenue and cost of current and future projects
  • Invoice review for select clients
  • Conferring with Project Managers to coordinate departmental activities with corporate needs
  • Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as necessary

Required Qualifications

  • An Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS) in Design and Drafting Technology
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Microstation software
  • Five years prior experience preferred in civil design in the gas pipeline industry
  • Ability to perform civil design drafting utilizing a 3D environment is a plus
  • Knowledge of SmallWorld and/or ESRI GIS platforms is a plus
  • Strong work ethic with desire to work in a production environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Previous supervisory experience is a plus
  • Previous business development experience a plus
  • Unquestioned business and personal integrity
