Director of Commercial Insight
The Director of Commercial Insight will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting customer behaviors to ensure RS maximizes business outcomes. They will provide directional insight to accelerate revenue, profit, and customer growth through our commercial activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytics / insights background and a demonstrated capacity to use customer insights to deliver performance improvements.
The Director of Commercial Insight will report to the SVP, Group Marketing and Americas Customer Experience Americas and have a matrix reporting line into the Chief Commercial officer, US & Canada. They will have two (2) direct reports initially, as well as responsibility for the insights delivered out of Sales and Marketing.

Director of Commercial Insight

Responsibilities
- Own and manage a commercial trading forum that facilitates the effective prioritization of commercial activities and maximization of business profitability
- Facilitate compilation of insights sources (including but not limited to VOC survey, Market Insights, and Hanover Research Studies) into consolidated business intelligence
- Collaborate closely with all commercial functions to maximize outcomes:
- With the Sales team to understand customer profitability, discount effectiveness and to develop sales strategies on revenue of $1B annually.
- With the Value Added Solutions team to support in roadmap development and profit maximization in their evolution toward 20%+ of our annual revenue
- With the Product & Supplier Management team to maximize product investment decisions, improve inventory management, and identify commercial opportunities for improving value with our suppliers.
- With the Marketing team to improve marketing spend ($20M annually) effectiveness, customer acquisition and improvements to the digital experience
- Work closely with Finance Analysts and Business Intelligence teams to gather, understand, and analyze critical business information
- Work with 3rd party agencies and consulting firms to support the formulation of business and functional strategies
- Collaborate with global functions to provide customer insight through formalized research and surveys
- Stay up to date with the latest data science technical tools, capabilities, and industry trends. Develop and deliver technical training resources and individual career development plans for the Insights team
- Discover opportunities in enterprise data resources and activate the Insights team to develop data solutions, deliver enhancements, and drive performance
- Lead a team of high performance data professionals in a collaborative and aligned environment
- 10+ Years of Experience in Analytics/Insights Management, including demonstrated capacity to translate insights into business actions
- 6+ Years managing a team
- Hands on experience working with advanced analytics programs including, but not limited to, Tableau, Power BI, and Domo
- Experience manipulating large scale datasets using SQL, Python, R, Google Analytics, etc.
- Experience with Relational Database Management Systems architecture and administration
- Understanding of Application Programming Interface technologies
- Understanding of ETL and ELT methodologies
- Demonstrated knowledge of Machine Learning algorithms, concepts, and business application
- Demonstrated problem structuring and strategic problem-solving skills with experience managing multiple simultaneous projects
- A passion to learn/develop and bring in emerging trends/technology that drive further insight value
- Demonstrated ability to sift through complex data, perform analysis, and identify critical information
- Comfortable with navigating relationships and recommendations with Senior Executives (including C-Level)
- Knowledge of distribution industry is a plus
