Position Description:
The successful candidate will be a results-driven and dynamic individual with extensive business development experience in pharma, biotech and/or MedTech. They will play a pivotal role in the growth and success of Humacyte by leading the establishment of high-value corporate collaborations and strategic alliances that maximize the value of the Company, its product pipeline and technology platform. The candidate will work closely with executive leadership and cross functional teams to identify, promote, evaluate and establish external collaborations to advance Humacyte’s product candidates and R&D programs. This role requires a blend of industry acumen, strategic thinking, and relationship-building skills to excel. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
The company’s technology platform and pipeline include first-in-class engineered and regenerative human tissues. Engineered human blood vessels within the pipeline have applications in treatment of peripheral vascular disease, coronary artery bypass surgery, and the transplantation of islets to reverse type 1 diabetes, along with other earlier-stage indications. Corporate targets of opportunity for collaboration and/or partnership would include large pharma companies, biotechnology companies, as well as medical device companies, depending upon the specific pipeline indication that is under consideration.

Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with executive leadership in the analysis and development of a comprehensive strategy for maximizing the value of Humacyte’s pipeline products and technology platform.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with potential corporate partners and manage ongoing communications with these partners to maintain their viability as potential collaborators.
- Create compelling pitch decks in collaboration with cross functional teams that effectively communicate the value proposition of each product / technology opportunity to prospective partners. Tailor messaging and materials to resonate with different partner profiles and preferences.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prepare due diligence materials, including product and/or technology descriptions, market analyses, development plans and regulatory assessments. Coordinate partner meetings and facilitate discussions to address partner inquiries and concerns.
- Extensive time devoted to meetings with internal stakeholders as well as outside corporate partner candidates. Meetings will be virtual as well as in person, and so substantial travel is anticipated for this role.
- Participate in negotiations with potential partners to secure favorable terms. Work closely with executive leadership and legal counsel to structure collaboration agreements and finalize deal terms.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies in the biotech sector. Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential partnering opportunities.
- Lead in-licensing business efforts as required to support R&D programs, including licenses required to ensure freedom to operate.
- Foster a culture of collaboration by developing and maintaining strong and positive relationships with stakeholders both internally and externally.
- BS/MS degree in life science or related field required, advanced degree in business or life science (MBA, MD or Ph.D.) is preferred.
- Proven experience in business development, corporate development, due diligence, market and competitive research/analysis within the pharma or biotechnology industry, and perhaps the MedTech industry.
- Strong understanding of biotechnology and MedTech market dynamics, including technology trends, competitive positioning and regulatory landscape.
- Excellent communication, influencing and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences, and high-level understanding of medical product discovery and development process.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to identify opportunities, solve problems, and drive initiatives forward in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Effective negotiator with a keen eye for detail and proficiency in deal structuring and contract negotiation.
- Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
