Technical Writer

CEIS | Power is seeking a technical writer to develop and maintain precise safety and compliance documentation for operational procedures. This position is on a contract basis, and our client, an industrial logistics and services company, is looking for a motivated individual to join their fast-paced, growing team. The right person for this position will be able to perform well under pressure and be adaptable to rapid change and redirection.

Requirements

• 35 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in safety, industrial, or manufacturing environments.
• Strong understanding of workplace safety regulations (OSHA, ISO 45001, NFPA, EPA, etc.).
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a focus on clarity and accuracy.
• Proficiency in documentation tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and document control software (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence, MaintainX).
• Familiarity with engineering drawings, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.
• Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  
  

Preferred skills:

• Experience writing for heavy industry, energy, construction, or manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma documentation practices.
• Experience with digital asset/documentation systems (SAP, Extensiv, MaintainX, or similar), and graphic design or visual documentation skills (diagrams, flowcharts, safety infographics).
  
  

Work environment includes office and field settings with occasional visits to job sites, warehouses, or manufacturing plants, and may require wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when on site.

Responsibilities

The right person for this position will be responsible for the following:

• Developing, writing, and editing safety manuals, SOPs, JSAs, incident reports, training guides, and compliance documentation.
• Collaborate with SMEs, safety managers, engineers, and operations teams to gather technical information, translating complex technical and regulatory requirements into clear, user-friendly documents suitable for employees at all levels.
• Ensure all documentation complies with OSHA, EPA, ISO, and other relevant regulatory and corporate standards.
• Maintaining version control and document management practices to keep records current and accessible.
• Supporting incident investigations by drafting clear, factual, and comprehensive safety reports, editing and proofreading existing safety content for clarity, consistency, and technical accuracy.
• Developing templates, checklists, and documentation frameworks to standardize safety materials, assisting in preparing safety training materials, presentations, and onboarding documents, and participating in audits and reviews to ensure all safety documentation meets compliance requirements.
