The Position

The mission of every Robertson employee is to execute their responsibilities with the #1 goal of saving and protecting the lives of service members across the globe. The Structures & Dynamics Analysis Engineer provides structures and dynamics guidance during the initial through final design and development of fuel system components and restraint systems; as well as support design verification and qualification activities by performing specialized analysis and by writing clear and concise documentation including test plans, reports, memos, and trip reports.

Duties & Responsibilities

Structures & Dynamics Analysis Engineers I, II, III, IV and V:

  • Evaluates the internal loads for the fuel system components and assemblies
  • Performs the initial and final sizing of fuel system components and assemblies
  • Assists Aviation, Ground, and Fuel Containment Technology Engineers with projects as necessary
  • Adherence to Export Control and Technology Control Plan (TCP) as applicable to job function
  • Adherence to Compliance Plan and Employee Policy Manual

Structures & Dynamics Analysis Engineers II, III, IV and V (in addition to the above):

  • Assists with training and on-the-job learning initiatives for less experienced Engineers
  • Effectively and directly communicates with vendors and customers
  • Marginal duties may include the following:
    • Performs proof of concept experiments to demonstrate ideas
    • Proactively seeks guidance and work opportunities to increase skill set and to determine the potential impact of designs and improve understanding of standard operating procedures
Structures & Dynamics Analysis Engineers III, IV and V (in addition to the above):

  • Performs continuous improvement of analytical processes/tools to improve accuracy, effectiveness, quality, and efficiency of the development effort
  • Provides support in guiding, execution of design changes, and optimization of the fuel system structural components and assemblies responses as required
  • Works with teammates, production staff, and technical staff to ensure proper interpretation and implementation of customer needs into finished products
  • Executes preliminary and critical design reviews with teammates to adequately express project requirements
  • Regularly informs and educates stakeholders on new systems, designs, and methodology to ensure proper understanding and execution of designs
  • Develops and manages to schedules for each project
  • Designs products that meet customer requirements
  • Developing specifications based on customer requirements
  • Ensures technical and schedule requirements are met
  • Manages any required test program for the product
  • Responds to internal and external customer questions and requests in a timely fashion
  • Marginal duties may include the following:
    • Defines and documents structural design requirements for the service life of the company products, by applying company, customer, and regulatory requirements and specifications
Structures & Dynamics Analysis Engineers IV and V (in addition to the above):

  • Develops conceptual and/or detailed approaches to structures & dynamics analysis and coordinates technology development to ensure structural integrity of the company products
  • Investigates emerging technologies to develop future product designs to meet the projected requirements
  • Coordinates the development of new processes and methodologies
  • Leads the design and development of a product as well as the execution throughout the life cycle of the product (business development phase to product disposal phase) to include capture, development, test, production, and sustainment
  • Conducts project status meetings and reporting status updates on existing project(s)
  • Marginal duties may include the following:
    • Defines computing requirements and develops/supports in-house and commercial application software, to enable efficient performance of engineering tasks
    • Plans and leads the research of new technology applications, new product designs and structural life enhancement concepts, to improve the company products
Structures & Dynamics Analysis Engineers V (in addition to the above):

  • Develops and implements new analysis approaches to dynamics and structural stability analyses, and pre-testing simulations
  • Supports proposal development activities by developing technical volume sections
  • Marginal duties may include the following:
    • Works with customers and regulatory agencies to develop certification standards and define processes that will ensure requirements are met

Qualifications

Education And Experience

Structures & Dynamics Engineer- I: A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Previous internship experience in an engineering field is preferred.

Structures & Dynamics Engineer- II: A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a Structures & Dynamics engineer role; or a Master’s Degree in Engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Previous employment in engineering field (commercial, military, or defense engineering) is preferred.

Structures & Dynamics Engineer- III: A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a Structures & Dynamics engineer role; or a Master’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in an analyst engineer role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Previous employment in engineering field (commercial, military, or defense engineering) is preferred.

Structures & Dynamics Engineer- IV: A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering and a minimum of thirteen (13) years of experience in a Structures & Dynamics engineer role; or a Master’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in an analyst engineer role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Previous employment in engineering field (commercial, military, or defense engineering) is preferred.

Structures & Dynamics Engineer- V: A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering and a minimum of twenty (20) years of experience in a Structures & Dynamics engineer role; or a Master’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a analyst engineer role; or a PhD in Engineering and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in an analyst engineer role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Previous employment in engineering field (commercial, military, or defense engineering) is preferred.

Professional Qualifications

Required:

  • Solid understanding of Structures, vibrations, multi-body dynamics, and nonlinear dynamics tools and software
  • Familiar with design of mechanical assemblies
  • Skilled in the use of Finite Element Analysis and other traditional analysis methods to accurately predict structural and dynamic performance.
  • A good understanding of Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools and software
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, groups of managers, and/or end users
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, applies lessons learned to preclude recurrences, and gathers and analyzes information skillfully; proactively looks for ways to improve and promote quality and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, Outlook, PowerPoint; and Access as required)
  • Mathematical understanding consistent with the educational requirements
  • Ability to read, write and communicate clearly and effectively in English
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to use various tools to identify and solve problems
  • Strong customer service and company culture/reputation orientation
  • Structures & Dynamics Engineer- III, IV and V (in addition to the above):
    • Familiar with design of mechanical assemblies
    • Ability to coordinate and perform tasks with minimal direction
  • Structures & Dynamics Engineer- IV and V (in addition to the above):
    • Program management and schedule tracking (i.e. using Microsoft Project)
  • Structures & Dynamics Engineer- V (in addition to the above):
    • Familiar with drafting program proposals
Preferred:

  • Familiarity with McNeal-Schwendler / NASTRAN Analysis Products
  • Familiarity specifically with SolidWorks Computer Aided Design

Physical Demands

Up to 25% domestic and/or international travel is required. While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit and stand. The incumbent is occasionally required to climb, squat, bend, or kneel. The incumbent must occasionally lift or carry a maximum of 50 pounds; as well as push or pull a maximum of 100 pounds. The incumbent will regularly use hand tools including but not limited to wrenches, sockets, drills, screwdrivers, rulers, and calipers. The incumbent will occasionally use powered equipment including but not limited to computers, company vehicles, golf carts, fork lifts and hoists. Ability to drive a company vehicle per Employee Policy Manual E.7.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly exposed to mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to dirty working conditions, heat or cold ranging between 65 and 100 degree ambient conditions, vapors or fumes, and dust shavings. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate (< 85 dB) in office areas and moderate to loud in production areas (.85dB). The incumbent is required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including Nitrile or Chloroprene gloves, negative pressure respirator, dust mask, safety glasses, goggles, and hearing protection.

Safety/Security/Environmental

  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Comply with all Safety policies as outlined by the company standards and local, state and federal laws.
  • In accordance with Robertson Fuel Systems’ Arizona Drug and Alcohol Policy, this position is designated as a safety-sensitive position.
