The Strategic Communications Assistant supports the college's communication and marketing efforts through high- quality writing, content creation, and brand storytelling. This part-time role is ideal for a talented communicator who can write across multiple formats - from press releases to web content to social media posts - with minimal supervision and is passionate about promoting the mission of Bishop State Community College.

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, English, media studies, or a related field preferred

 Physical Demands & Work Environment
Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Learned physical skill is required for keyboarding. Frequent walking, standing, or sitting may be required. Working hours may vary and occasional evening or weekend work is required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.

Salary: ACCS Local Salary Schedule: $23/hr

- Write and edit feature stories, press releases, internal announcements, and other written content that promote the college's brand and achievements
- Contribute engaging content for the college website, newsletters, and digital signage
- Support media relations efforts by tracking press coverage and preparing media advisories
- Ensure content aligns with institutional branding, voice, and style guidelines
- Create and schedule engaging platform-specific social media content, including captions, photos, graphics, reels, short videos, etc.
- Capture photo and video content at campus events to support real-time and future promotional use
- Monitor and respond to audience interactions across platforms professionally and promptly
- Help manage a content calendar to plan and align social media with key college initiatives
- Report on social media performance using platform analytics and media monitoring tools
- Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Public Relations to brainstorm and execute marketing strategies
- Exercise strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging digital communication tools
- Support the design and organization of digital assets using tools like Canva, Adobe Express, or Photoshop
- Maintain organized systems for managing projects, content, and files
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders
- Assist with other duties as assigned, including event coverage and special projects
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, English, media studies, or a related field preferred
- At least one year of professional experience writing for an organization, publication, or institution
- Portfolio link or recent writing samples (news articles, web content, press releases, social media posts, etc.) must be submitted with application
- Two or more years' experience creating published content, including but not limited to social media, newsletters, website copy, and public relations campaigns
- Familiarity with AP Style, branding principles, and communications within higher education or nonprofit settings
