Basic Purpose
Positions in this job family are responsible for establishing contact with motor carrier representatives. This position conducts investigations on intrastate motor carriers and/or drivers to determine if violations of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Oklahoma State Laws, and/or Administrative Rules are discovered. Enforcement cases with civil penalty enforcement actions are initiated against the responsible entity, when appropriate.

At this level employees are assigned responsibilities, which are small in size or scope involving the direction, management, coordination, or implementation of various programs or functions within an agency. This may include professional level work with responsibility for an important component of a comprehensive or specialized operating program, providing services in a variety of management areas such as formulation of agency policies, budget preparation, physical plan operations, or personnel and fiscal management
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Competencies
This position requires a high level of understanding the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Federal Hazardous Material Regulations, Oklahoma law, Oklahoma Administrative Rules, and North American Standard inspection procedures. A level of expertise in managing multiple and complex work assignments simultaneously. Knowledge of spelling, grammar, and arithmetic. Ability to communicate effectively with government officials and the public through in person, telephone, or email communication. Ability and skill in conducting interviews, gathering data and facts.
Education And Experience
Required certifications: North American Standard-NAS Level 1 roadside inspection; General Hazardous Material roadside inspection; Hazardous Material Cargo Tank roadside inspection; and Investigative Safety Analysis (Compliance Investigation). Experience preferred in detailed report writing and case preparation.

Typical Functions

- Provide education and technical assistance to motor carriers, drivers, and the public.
- Conducts Oklahoma Intrastate Compliance Investigations, both onsite and offsite
- Conducts North American Standard driver / vehicle inspections
- Conducts safety talks and outreach activities, when assigned
- Attend training and meetings throughout Oklahoma or the United States when assigned
- Works with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Oklahoma Department Public Safety to ensure the Compliance Investigation Program is effective and properly administered.
- Prepares reports, statements, and records for the Oklahoma Department Public Safety
- Screens, examines, and verifies documents for correctness, appropriateness, adequacy, and conformity to established requirements and procedures.
- Responds to requests concerning the interpretation of agency and/or program policies and procedures, State law & rules, or Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- Work with many different computer programs and internet-based systems required for the position
- Maintains cleanliness, security, and proper working condition of assigned vehicle, all equipment issued, and uniforms.
