Join our dedicated team as a Section 508 Compliance Subject Matter Expert (SME)/Analyst and play a pivotal role in enhancing accessibility and inclusivity within digital experiences. This remote opportunity allows you to contribute to a significant project for a prominent Federal agency, directly impacting user-centric IT services and ensuring they are accessible to all.

As part of a multi-year initiative supporting the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), you will work on improving human-centered design (HCD) practices and promoting Section 508 compliance across various projects. We are looking for a collaborative professional who is passionate about accessibility and eager to stay ahead of industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct 508 remediation to ensure that digital assets align with accessibility standards.
  • Collaborate with the CMS Section 508 team to develop HCD artifacts such as rapid prototype wireframes, user stories/personas, and kanbans.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) regarding Section 508 requirements, accessibility benchmarks, and implementation methodologies.
  • Create and facilitate instructor-led and self-paced e-learning training sessions, instructional videos, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and promotional materials focused on accessibility.
  • Provide guidance to enhance web content development and outreach efforts.
  • Suggest enhancements to existing Section 508 processes and procedures.
  • Work closely with HCD consultants to integrate best practices, emphasizing an accessibility perspective.
  • Document and track technical discussions from 508 committee meetings, guiding subgroup discussions and ensuring issues are addressed.
  • Engage actively in an agile work environment, participating in daily team scrums and client meetings.

Required Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with accessibility tools such as Adobe Acrobat, PAC3, WAVE toolbar, JAWS, NVDA, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Read&Write, ABBYY FineReader, TextAloud, and similar assistive technologies (not all tools expertise required).

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Assistive Technology, Educational Technology, or a related field is required.
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in accessibility and Section 508 compliance.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience on government contracts, particularly with CMS.
