The Job

This position provides paralegal, contracting, and administrative support to the Legal Department, which includes several attorneys, a paralegal, a privacy officer, a privacy specialist, a records manager and one senior legal assistant. The successful candidate will be detail oriented and can work autonomously on a variety of assignments and projects. The paralegal should possess a strong drive for excellence, attention to detail, an ability to adapt to change, and a “can do” positive attitude.

You Will

  • Provide support with reviewing, editing, drafting, and proofreading of legal documents, including contracts and correspondence.
  • Assist in the development or improvement of templates, department-wide business processes, and policies and procedures.
  • Maintain matters organized by triaging priorities, monitoring and updating status, documenting actions, tracking deadlines, maintaining logs, and preparing reports.
  • Exercise independent problem-solving techniques to resolve administrative problems; proactively follow up on pending matters; work well as a team player with key business units through transparent and frequent communication.
  • Coordinate and prepare meetings with internal and external clients as need. Responsibilities may include agenda preparation, virtual or physical room set up, and general logistics to ensure a smooth participation experience.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all matters.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and outside counsel.
  • Accomplish organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Serve as one of the contract management system administrators, utilizing the company contract management system.
  • Lead and/or assist with project management for Legal Department projects.
  • Contribute to the team effort by performing other tasks and general administrative support as needed.

  • Actively support the achievement of SCAN’s Vision and Goals. (Change to Healthcare in Action or Homebase Medical, if appropriate)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree
  • Paralegal certificate from an accredited program required (J.D. degree also accepted)
  • 5+ years of experience working with attorneys as a paralegal in a law firm or in a corporate legal department
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements or contracts under attorney supervision strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with healthcare and privacy law and healthcare organizations is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve, use judgment and discretion.
  • Proactive and flexible, with the ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities and demands.
  • Strong organization skills; detail oriented and ability to work with precision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-paced environment simultaneously and balance priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to receive and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle and manage confidential information.
  • Experience using administrative and legal technology, with a demonstrated ability to quickly learn new programs.
