Lipid Science & Applications Scientist- Decatur, IL
Summary
Lipids Science and Applications group is seeking a Scientist who will work on lecithin projects supported by the group. The candidate will closely work with R&D, Operational, Quality and Commercial group to support and grow ADM’s lecithin (emulsifier) business. This role will require strong knowledge in the areas of emulsifiers, surfactants & lipids science.
The candidate will lead, and support lecithin-centric experimental work aimed towards fundamental research, product development, unit operations and application support. The candidate will be required to perform multiple projects and priorities concurrently.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
The pay range for this position is expected to be between:
$70,400.00 - $129,000.00
Salaried Incentive Plan
The total compensation package for this position will also include annual bonus

Summary
Lipids Science and Applications group is seeking a Scientist who will work on lecithin projects supported by the group. This role will require strong knowledge in the areas of emulsifiers, surfactants & lipids science.
The candidate will lead, and support lecithin-centric experimental work aimed towards fundamental research, product development, unit operations and application support. The candidate will be required to perform multiple projects and priorities concurrently.
Job Responsibilities
- Design and interpret experimental results, draw conclusions, contribute recommendations, and give presentations to relevant functional groups.
- Perform laboratory and pilot trials related to product development (process development, and/ or experimental product manufacturing) engaging support from appropriate R&D co-workers when necessary.
- Coordinate periodic laboratory ring tests between relevant labs and communicate results.
- Perform analytical equipment calibration and maintenance with confidence to ensure accuracy and reliability of the analytical information.
- Evaluate and develop new methods to characterize the physical and chemical properties of lecithin and other emulsifiers.
- Develop protocols and create corresponding documentation such as SOPs and Job Safety Assessments (JSAs)
- Conduct competitor portfolio tracking, patent analysis and consumer understanding.
- Work with cross-functional, matrixed teams and help provide continuous support to R&D, Operational, Quality and Commercial groups.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry or Food Science or related field with 0-5 years of experience in academic/industry environment.
- Strong experience with physical and chemical laboratory testing techniques (Understanding of colloidal science and fat crystallization techniques highly positive).
- A strong team player with effective analytical, troubleshooting and communications skills.
- Solid background in research and development with excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work on travel up to 15%
- Ability to work within a diverse, multidisciplinary team
- Ability to ensure safety in the workplace
