The Lead Medical Support Specialist is responsible for providing work leadership to a team of Medical Support Specialists (MSS), under the direction of the Center Operation Director (COD) to ensure clinical care is executed and exceptional service is delivered to all customers. The Lead Medical Support Specialist is responsible for completing and/or delegating tasks amongst team of MSS to remain compliant with policies and procedures as well as support the patient flow. Also performs routine medical and testing procedures under direct supervision of the treating clinician as well as supports in other areas of the facility as needed including registration and referral management.

The Lead Medical Support Specialist is responsible for providing work leadership to a team of Medical Support Specialists (MSS), under the direction of the Center Operation Director (COD) to ensure clinical care is executed and exceptional service is delivered to all customers. The Lead Medical Support Specialist is responsible for completing and/or delegating tasks amongst team of MSS to remain compliant with policies and procedures as well as support the patient flow. Also performs routine medical and testing procedures under direct supervision of the treating clinician as well as supports in other areas of the facility as needed including registration and referral management.

Medical Support Duties
- Perform Department of Transportation (DOT) and Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing
- Prepare patients for physical examinations, including taking vital signs and any required or requested ancillary testing including but not limited to vaccines and injections, phlebotomy, pulmonary function tests, audiogram testing and respirator fit testing
- Perform rapid screening tests (influenza, strep, mono, glucose, etc.)
- Assist providers during examination and treatment
- Responsible for performing routine medical procedures as ordered by treating clinician as well as triaging emergent patients as needed
- Prepare and assist clinician with procedure set up and injury care
- Apply bandages, dressings and splints as ordered by the treating clinician
- Dispense medications and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) as ordered by the treating clinician in accordance with state regulations
- Complete quality assurance activities on equipment and medical devices as well as testing processes used in the center
- Maintain supplies, clean rooms and equipment, and stock exam rooms
- Maintain and operate all medical devices and equipment, including calibration and record keeping in accordance with current policy and procedures
- Notify leadership immediately if equipment is not functioning properly, supplies are needed, or facility is not operating as expected
- In partnership with center leadership, assist with patient flow and volume
- Keep patients informed of expected wait times during all aspects of the center visit
- Responsible for clerical tasks in both the front and back office associated with patient care and proper record keeping. Ensure accuracy in record keeping and documentation
- Cross train to perform Patient Service Specialist duties: greet patients, obtain authorization, check in/out, communicate wait times, answer multi-line telephone system, and distribute employer results/paperwork as needed
- Follow HIPAA guidelines and safety rules
- Attend center staff meetings or huddles as required
- Participate in initial and ongoing training as required
- Assist in maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly appearance throughout the facility
- Perform Human Performance Evaluations under the direction of a certified clinician or therapist
- Assign duties and responsibilities for MSS staff while monitoring patient flow
- Maintain all medical equipment and medical devices and facilitate maintenance as needed
- Maintain safety and accuracy in testing/treating patients by ensuring performance of daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance and quality control/quality assurance activities of medical equipment
- Ensure that the medical center maintains appropriate stocking of supplies, equipment, medications, testing and treatment equipment for safe and proper patient treatment
- Facilitate completion any applicable training including but not limited to clinical competency training that occurs monthly including for MSS staff
Qualifications
Education Level: Vocational/Technical/Business School
- Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited school (credentials in the state of employment in accordance with state requirements and applicable regulations) or Military Medical Specialist with current Medical Assistant credentials in the state of employment in accordance with state requirements and applicable regulations
- Drug Screen Collection, Breath Alcohol Certification, and Hair and Oral Fluids Collection Certifications
- Customarily has at least six months or more of medical assistant experience
- Knowledge of medical procedures and medical terminology
- Working knowledge of occupational medicine requirements (state specific) preferred

- Outstanding customer service skills as well as the ability to deal with people in a manner which shows tact and professionalism
- The ability to properly handle sensitive and confidential information (including HIPAA and PHI) in accordance with federal and state laws and company policies
- Demonstrated effective communication and interaction with employers, patients, providers and other employees
- Demonstrated ability to maintain working relationship with all employees/leadership.
