Import/Export Compliance Manager

Job Summary

The Import/Export Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring that all international trade activities between the USA and Mexico comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining compliance programs for import/export operations, managing regulatory risks, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure adherence to Mexican and USA trade laws.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee import/export compliance policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure adherence to U.S. and Mexico international trade regulations (e.g., ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and Customs regulations).
  • Monitor changes in trade regulations for Mexico and the USA and provide guidance to internal teams on compliance requirements.
  • Oversee customs compliance, including tariff classification, valuation, country of origin determination, and duty optimization strategies.
  • Ensure proper licensing, permits, and documentation for international shipments to Mexico and from Mexico to the USA, including EAR and ITAR-controlled items.
  • Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify compliance gaps and implement corrective actions.
  • Train employees on trade compliance regulations and company policies.
  • Act as a point of contact with government agencies (e.g., BIS, CBP, DDTC, OFAC) and respond to regulatory inquiries or audits.
  • Collaborate with logistics, procurement, legal, and sales teams to ensure smooth international transactions while mitigating risks.
  • Maintain records and documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate and report potential violations, including voluntary disclosures if necessary.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Language – must be bi-lingual English/Spanish
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in international business, Law, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in trade compliance, import/export regulations, or a related field in the USA and Mexico.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of U.S. and Mexico trade laws, including ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and customs regulations.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong communication and training abilities.
    • Attention to detail and ability to manage complex regulatory processes.
  • Certifications: Industry certifications such as Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Export Compliance Professional (CECP) are a plus.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US, sponsorship is not available
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the aerospace, defense, or manufacturing industry.
  • Experience working with trade compliance software and ERP systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, global team environment.
