Failure Analysis Engineer

Job Description

Position Summary:

The Failure Analysis Engineer plays a key role in supporting the technical aspects of customer products and repair processes as part of the Engineering team. This role adds value by applying core engineering principles to understand customer products and by developing innovative, effective solutions for diagnostics and repair. Established processes are expected to be maintained, regularly updated, and continuously improved to meet evolving customer needs and requirements.

Responsibilities/Duties

• Perform failure analysis on electronic assemblies, components, and systems to identify product and process issues.
• Develop and execute test plans to replicate and isolate failure modes and mechanisms.
• Identify root causes of failures and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to improve product reliability and resolve recurring issues.
• Prepare clear, detailed technical reports documenting analysis methods, findings, and recommendations.
• Develop processes, models, and process flow methods to improve analysis efficiency.
• Install, maintain, and recommend new analytical tools, equipment, and methodologies to expand FA capabilities.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing failure trends and implementing preventive measures.
• Stay current on emerging failure analysis tools, methods, and industry standards.
• Lead or own projects or project elements from start to finish, establishing expertise in areas of opportunity.
• Plan project timelines with critical checkpoints, ensuring deliverables are met.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and share technical knowledge across teams.
• Communicate technical information clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally, to engineering teams, management, customers, and OEM partners.
• Work under the direction of senior team members when needed, while functioning independently on assigned projects.
  
  

Education And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with FA techniques (microscopy, spectroscopy, electrical characterization, X-ray, etc.).
• Strong understanding of semiconductor devices, PCB design/manufacturing, and electronic assembly processes.
• Familiarity with statistical methods, FMEA, and reliability testing.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
