Under general supervision from the Manager EMS Operation, the Supervisor Emergency Medical Services (EMS), oversees the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) staff, responds to emergency and non-emergency calls in and around the Yaamava’ Resort & Casino (YRC) and delivers high quality patient care and customer service within the prescribed scope of practice, established protocols, and tribal policies.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Leads EMT team operations, including coordination and maintenance of EMT scheduling. Assists in the coordination of maintenance and care of EMS treatment rooms and equipment. Manages program where EMT staff inspect, audit, restock, and maintain facility defibrillators and first aid kits.
  • Conducts thorough investigations by analyzing and verifying information using various techniques and interviews. Prepare detailed written reports following departmental guidelines and provide verbal updates as required. Submits confidential patient care reports and documentation. Submit patient assessments, and risk management reports, including investigating complaints and procedural or process concerns, and direct the resolution of emergency medical performance issues.
  • Responds to emergency calls, begins investigations based on observations, and secures any physical evidence. Follow up with in-depth investigations and reports.
  • Administers emergency medical care to treat patients; performs Basic Life Support (BLS); assists paramedics with Advance Life Support (ALS) protocols and provides courteous and prompt customer service to the public, employees and Tribal Citizens. Interviews with patients and witnesses as needed.
  • Build relationships with internal customers, vendors, and law enforcement agencies and provides policy and procedure guidance on emergency medical care. Trains staff and community members in CPR and First Aid.
  • Supports leadership with EMS guidance, offering input on equipment needs, budgeting, and EMS issues specific to the Casino environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.

Education, Experience And Qualifications

  • Associates of Arts in EMS, Fire Science or related field required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in the field of Emergency Medical Service patient care required.
  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (ksa)

  • Principles and practices of emergency medical care.
  • Operation and maintenance of emergency medical equipment.
  • Safety practices and precautions pertaining to work.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and programs to include MS Office, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Read, understand, and draft departmental policies, rules, regulations, instructions, and literature as it pertains to emergency medical care.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing, with proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to operate a two-way radio to communicate with the communications center.
  • Analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective and responsible course of action.
  • Make presentations to a variety of groups.
  • Work effectively with other employees and the public.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions and explain them to others.
  • Maintain confidential information.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in producing well-written documents, including correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, organization, and content. This will be assessed through a written assignment or test during the hiring process.
  • Must successfully complete required in-service training, which includes, but is not limited to, courses in report writing.
  • Must successfully complete a New Employee Orientation training and demonstrate proficiency in conducting field interviews and writing preliminary investigative reports.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.

Required

  • EMT-I (Must be valid in State of California) or EMT-P.
  • Current AHA CPR Healthcare Provider or equivalent.
  • ICS 100-Introduction to ICS.
  • ICS 200-Basic ICS.
  • IS 700 NIMS: An Introduction.
  • IS 800 The National Response Plan.
  • Hazardous Materials First Responder Awareness (CSTI or equivalent).
  • Accredited First Aid Instructor (within 1 year of employment).
  • Current American Heart Association CPR Instructor (within 1 year of employment).

Preferred

  • Experience working as an EMT at Special Events.
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Designated Infection Control Officer Training.

  • Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts.

  • Strength sufficient to exert up to 200 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 200 pounds occasionally.
  • Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference and over the telephone.
  • Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference and over the telephone.
  • Visual acuity that meets the requirements of the position: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading and visual inspection of employees, visitors or facility.
  • Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation properties.
  • Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
  • The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke.
