Responsible for managing various R&D projects and leading new project teams. Based in the United States, play a crucial role in enhancing Terumo’s mid- to long-term competitiveness. Strong leadership and project management skills, coupled with a deep understanding of Terumo’s core technology business and industry dynamics required. Job duties:
- Under the guidance of the Deputy CTO and the Advisor of Discovery and Technology Center of Terumo (D-TECT), manage various R&D projects.
- Oversee the initiation and execution of new projects in the US in collaboration with the Discovery Team in Shonan, Japan.
- Provide technical support in collaboration with the Technical Support Team.
- Liaise with US R&D bases of the business units (BUs) to understand their technical support needs and facilitate collaboration with the technical support team.
- Drive the development and execution of R&D projects for D-TECT.
- Prioritize projects with high potential for rapid commercialization.
- Ensure efficient project management for swift transfer to the Company R&D as needed.
- Facilitate the rapid transition of projects to other business units for immediate market entry.
- Lead new project teams to explore and develop innovative solutions.
- Establish specialist teams to tackle new projects.
- Provide leadership and guidance to teams for alignment with Terumo’s strategic goals.
- Explore innovations within the medical device industries and initiate new solutions.
- Watch trends and innovation in the medical device industries.
- Look for new projects that are suited for Terumo corporation.
- Propose to the Deputy CTO and process to initiate projects.
- Build consensus among cross-functional teams to expedite project outcomes and time to market.
- Ensure effective project management with a focus on rapid product development and launch.
- Collaborate with the Company management / Terumo Corporate management to prioritize projects with quick market entry potential in R&D budget allocation.
- Comply with applicable Laws and Regulations, adhere to Quality Management System processes and requirements as well as demonstrate Ethics and Integrity in all matters and at all levels throughout the organization.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum twelve (12) years of project management experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of management or leadership experience.
- Knowledge of medical, engineering, and biomedical development.
- Knowledge of quality system and other standards in the medical device industry.
- Knowledge of basic financial and accounting.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and to lead and influence without authority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and influencing skills.
- Demonstrated success in delivering results.
- Flexible disposition aiding in the success of supporting each R&D site’s culture.
- Ability to think strategically.
- Ability to be creative and think outside of the box.
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed environment to facilitate cross-company and functional support to effectively perform all required duties.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Global management experience.
- Start-up company experience.
- Bilingual in English and Japanese.
