The Chatham County Fire Department (CCFD) is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and forward-thinking fire service professional to serve as its Deputy Chief - Support Services. This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all logistics, fleet, facilities, equipment, and supply functions to ensure operational efficiency and readiness in one of Georgia's most dynamic counties.

Reporting directly to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Chief - Support Services is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the department's logistical operations, including facilities management, fleet maintenance, equipment and supply coordination, and uniform distribution. The position plays a critical role in ensuring that all physical resources are ready and aligned to support front-line operations.
This position is part of the department's critical workforce and may serve as Section Chief during emergency activations or be assigned to administrative initiatives in support of the department's strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to fire stations and facilities
- Manage acquisition, readiness, and lifecycle of all department vehicles and specialty apparatus
- Supervise inventory and distribution of PPE, uniforms, and critical supplies
- Coordinate procurement processes in accordance with county policy
- Lead preventive maintenance schedules and support resource allocation planning
- Develop and manage logistics-related budgets
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance, inventory, and procurement activities
- Support emergency operations as Logistics Section Chief or as part of the Command Staff
- Serve as a senior advisor and participant in strategic planning and policy development
- Act as liaison with vendors, contractors, and county departments
- 15 years of continuous full-time paid fire service experience in a municipal or county career fire department
- 15 years of structural firefighting experience
- 2 years of experience as a pumper and aerial driver/operator
- 5 years as a Fire Battalion Chief or higher
- 5 years of fire-related instructional experience
- Demonstrated experience in increasing leadership responsibility and supporting organizational goals
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Valid Georgia Class F Driver's License (or equivalent)
- Georgia Certified Firefighter (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)
- Georgia EMT-Paramedic License (or National Registry with ability to obtain GA license within 30 days of hire)
- Required NPQ/IFSAC Certifications:
- Firefighter 1 and 2
- HazMat Awareness and Operations
- Fire Instructor 1
- Apparatus Driver/Operator - Pumper & Aerial
- Fire Officer IV
- Incident Safety Officer
- GFSTC NPQ Evaluator
- NIMS ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800 (current versions)
- NFA Executive Fire Officer (EFO) and CPSE Chief Fire Officer (FO) designation
- Experience serving on an Incident Management Team or in a regional command structure
- Experience with CFAI/CPSE accreditation standards and strategic planning models
- Must have successfully completed a career fire academy with a minimum of 800 training hours.
- Completion of the CCFD lateral academy
- Completion of one-year probationary period
- U.S. Citizen, 18 years or older
- High school diploma or GED
- Must meet all licensing and certification requirements at time of application
- Must successfully complete the full pre-employment process, including:
- Written exam
- Physical agility test
- Interview
- NFPA 1582 medical evaluation and fitness test
- Drug screening
- Background and driving record check
