Controller
Location: Murrieta, CA | On-Site
Elite Earthworks & Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Construction Controller to join our finance team. This position is intended to advance into the Financial Controller role.

The Controller will lead financial operations, reporting, compliance, and internal controls, ensuring accurate, efficient, and transparent accounting across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Transition into managing all day-to-day accounting operations (AP, AR, payroll, general ledger)
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
- Support budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial planning
- Conduct financial analysis to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Oversee job cost reports and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules
- Partner with Project Managers to ensure accurate billing and collections
- Strengthen internal controls and standardize accounting procedures
- Prepare and review tax filings; ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Support internal and external audits
- Train, mentor, and develop junior accounting staff
- Participate in software conversions and system upgrades (Sage Intacct, Foundation)
- Make decisions related to all assigned responsibilities
- Co-sign company checks
- Set authority levels for direct reports
- Communicate with customers regarding billing, job progress, or account issues
- Approve staff vacation schedules
- Contact vendors or suppliers regarding equipment or payment
- Contact customers regarding payment matters
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5 or more years of accounting experience, ideally in construction
- Knowledge of GAAP, job cost accounting, and financial reporting
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- CPA certification preferred
- Experience with Foundation Software preferred
- System conversion or implementation experience
- Experience with construction subcontractor accounting
- Experience/knowledge with handling Prevailing Wage Projects.
- Full-time, Exempt, W2 position.
- Competitive compensation at $120,000+, based on experience
