Bio-Rad is looking for a Consumables Sustaining Engineer to join the Life Science Group of Bio-Rad based in Pleasanton, CA. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team focused on developing innovative products using our core partitioning technology. Our ddPCR and Single Cell systems have enabled scientists around the world to make impactful discoveries in the life sciences and healthcare. You will report directly to the Engineering Manager for Microfluidics, and be part of a larger multi-disciplinary team.

Compensation: The estimated base salary range for this position is $117,900 to $162,200 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors. This position is eligible for a variable annual bonus, which is dependent upon achievement of your individual objectives and Company performance.

How You’ll Make An Impact
- Lead a portfolio of small to intermediate size sustaining engineering projects related to microfluidic and plastic consumables.
- Interface with supplier on a regular basis on a technical level to manage on-market microfluidic consumables.
- Manage supplier changes to processes, design, and/or materials for on-market microfluidic consumables and resolve technical issues by working with suppliers.
- Support marketing, QA, QC, procurement and other cross-functional groups by providing technical expertise on microfluidic consumables to resolve customer complaints, supply chain risks or other challenges.
- Develop sustainable processes for managing microfluidic and plastic consumables throughout their life cycle.
- Support verification/validation activities for microfluidic and plastic consumables during late-stage development.
- Execute assigned projects and activities in a timely manner.
- Create and maintain test protocols and reports for qualifying microfluidic and plastic consumables.
- Perform gap analyses of existing design files to support on-market microfluidic and plastic consumables.
- Build subject matter expertise in standard testing such as aging, shipping, and bioburden testing.
- Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Work Experience: 3+ years of experience in a sustaining engineering role, preferably in the life science consumables industry.
- Project management experience and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledgeable with a variety of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, hot embossing, machining, additive manufacturing, etc.
- Wet bench experience, preferably in PCR and single-cell applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Design verification and process verification/validation protocol and report writing.
- Proficiency in CAD software and experience with design for manufacturability (DFM).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Experience with root cause analysis and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).
- Knowledge of quality control principles and practices.
- Familiarity with microfluidic consumables, specifically with ddPCR and single-cell applications.
- Experience with Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance requirements in the microfluidic consumables industry.
