The Chemist / Engineer, 3D Printing develops solutions to customer or market driven needs through experimentation with novel chemistry and engineering novel material performance within Sartomer's expansive product line. To accomplish this, the incumbent interacts effectively with customers, development partners, global and domestic colleagues, Sartomer business, marketing and sales groups to effectively solve high priority, technical problems and accelerate product development efforts. The Chemist works safely, responsibly and efficiently in dynamic laboratory setting and will be required to occasionally travel to customer sites or other Arkema locations.
Technical Assistance - Customers:
- Office and laboratory environment with chemical, physical, ergonomic and electrical hazards.
- Occasional travel to customer locations and off-site trade shows and conferences.
- This position requires close working relationships with Marketing, R&D, Pilot Plant and Sales groups in order to achieve objectives.
- Effectively leads development programs.
- Recognizes, solicits and respects diverse viewpoints in decision making and problem solving.
- Effectively represents department at multiple levels within the company.
- Understands Sartomer's products, business, applications and markets.
Technical Assistance - Customers:
- In partnership with management, works with customers and offers scientifically-based advice when faced with ambiguity, incomplete data and time pressures. Effectively communicates risk levels inherent under above circumstances.
- Utilizes scientific method to create and test hypothesis for product traceability and retention of results.
- Identifies root causes and partners with management where necessary on more complex customer or market problems.
- Solve technical problems by making product and process recommendations. Organizes, analyzes data and explains conclusions/outcomes to stakeholders. In alignment with management, determines validity of product performance and suitability of products or product concepts to meet customer and market specifications and performance requirements.
- Continuously researches new market applications and processes in the 3D space to bring growth and development to product/process mix. Aligns with management on areas of research.
- Partners with management in the identification of new 3D printing equipment. Assists in installation, develops SOP's for use and finds novel testing approaches leading to new product/process development.
- Develops formulations to address specific market or customer needs and tunes for printability on range of 3D printers.
- Works in global cross functional and cross BU teams to accomplish laboratory milestones.
- Investigates new chemistries for utility in photocure 3D printing, with guidance from management.
- Plans and conducts laboratory studies in Sartomer labs and participates in processing trials in manufacturing plant to support technical needs and development/commercialization of new technologies.
- With guidance, identifies and uses internal and external resources/experts to help solve high priority, technical problems and accelerate product development efforts.
- Transfers novel R&D based projects into a market facing offering through continued teamwork and learnings.
- Utilize scientific method to create and test hypothesis for product traceability and retention of results.
- Share information with department and technical management/leadership both verbally and in technical reports and presentations, including experimental results, data analysis and conclusions.
- Captures and reviews results of work with management. Shares results in an organized manner to systematically move research forward in a coordinated effort.
- Use statistical DOE to analyze results.
- Research and understand patent landscape for various projects.
- Routinely solves assigned and self-uncovered complex scientific problems with initiative.
- Actively promotes safety to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with company and government regulations.
- Compliant with all lab safety policies and procedures to maintain safe work environment.
- Fully comply with and participate in safety programs.
- Takes responsibility for personal safety and that of others.
- Participates in departmental safety initiatives, such as observations and assisting in development of SOPs.
- Operate in compliance with site safety policies, including material handling and waste disposal.
- BS Degree in the area of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science with 0-3 years of lab experience, or a MS in related field with 3-5 years of lab experience.
- Proficient with computer software applications (word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, etc.).
- Writes and presents effectively at multiple levels both internally and externally.
- Organizes and analyzes data to explain conclusions and outcomes. Expresses both verbally and in writing complex concepts, thoughts and ideas clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrates ability to maintain strong customer/collegial relationships.
- Demonstrates a commitment to conducting work ethically and lawfully.
- Motivated self-starter; identifies what needs to be done and takes action
- Strong communication skills; presents clearly and articulately and assures comprehension both verbal and written communications.

- Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.
