Position Summary
Salem Academy & College, a historic women's institution committed to academic excellence and athletic development, seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic Assistant Cross Country / Track & Field Coach to support both our high school (Academy) and college programs. This individual will assist the Head Coach in all aspects of training, competition, student-athlete development, and program operations.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Assist in planning and leading practices, workouts, and strength training sessions for Cross Country and Track & Field teams.
Support both Academy (grades 9–12) and College student-athletes with skill development, time management, and performance strategies.
Attend and assist with meets, races, and travel logistics as assigned.
Help monitor academic progress and student-athlete eligibility.
Serve as a positive mentor and role model, fostering a team culture grounded in discipline, accountability, and respect.
Ensure compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA Division III regulations.
Support recruitment efforts by identifying and communicating with prospective student-athletes.
Assist in administrative tasks including equipment inventory, meet entries, scheduling, and communication with athletes and families.
Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and wellness within the program.
Drive 15 passenger van to meets and practices.
Required Qualifications
Previous experience coaching or competing in Cross Country and/or Track & Field, preferably at the high school or collegiate level.
Understanding of NCAA Division III and independent school athletics environments.
First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive institution vehicles for travel.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated commitment to the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
Physical Functions
While performing the responsibilities of the Assistant Coach the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
