Position Summary
Agency Summary
Established by the Indiana Constitution, the Marion County Clerk is the custodian of all court records, issues marriage licenses, and serves as the court’s fiscal agent and trustee of child support payments. The Election Board receives nominations and petitions for elections, as well prepares ballots, and maintains voting machines by cultivating a productive, collaborative, and compliant work environment for our workforce to meet the needs of the citizens of Indianapolis and Marion County.
Job Summary
Incumbent is responsible for providing supervision, managerial oversight, and coordination to the various functional units of the Marion County Clerk's agency. Assists director in daily operational management activities, provides work direction, training, and supervision to team-members. Incumbent will utilize the knowledge of established policies and procedures which controls most of their actions. Represents the Appeals Department when meeting with other agencies and parties.
Requires proficient knowledge of and strict adherence to requirements and regulations related to the filing of legal documents and appellate procedures; accessing court services; accessibility of court records and transcripts, especially confidential records and transcripts; and various fees and payment processes.

Minimum Job Requirements and Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Previous leadership experience. Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet various deadlines is a must. Must have the ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks. Must be able to communicate effectively orally, verbally, and in written formats. Attention to detail is a priority. Requires strong customer service skills and ability to promote teamwork and build effective relationships.
Preferred Job Requirements And Qualifications
Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field and one (1) year of previous supervisory experience.

- Manages employees, working in a team or individually, to maximize their performance and contributions.
- Schedules work and activities, gives instructions, motivates, and directs staff to meet the Clerk’s Office objectives.
- Responsible for training new employees on all relevant policies, procedures, and workflow operations; ensures all employees have the necessary knowledge, tools, and resources to effectively execute their responsibilities.
- Monitors and measures how an employee undertakes their responsibilities and how well these activities are executed. Identifies areas for improvement and makes suggestions to achieve this.
- Leads staff to help them achieve goals and maintain an effective working relationship.
- Delegates activities and tasks to others according to the ability, level of preparations, competence, and legal scope of practice.
- Maintains accurate timekeeping records for staff, including family medical leave and short-term disability. Approves time and request for benefit leave.
- Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Makes recommendations for improvements to work activities.
- Responsible for supporting and managing customer escalations and works to achieve successful outcomes.
- Ensures compliance with all responsibilities laid out in the Appellate Rules and in orders received from the Court of Appeals. Provides and ensures quality of records, transcripts, and filings.
