DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• In this position, you will work with individuals facing emotional, behavioral, and psychological challenges associated with substance use and mental health disorders.
• Help clients build coping skills, life skills, emotional strength, and a deeper sense of connection to themselves and the natural world through immersive, outdoor experiential activities.
• Lead and facilitate on-site experiential and expressive therapy.
• Lead and facilitate off-site adventure therapy sessions focused on promoting healing and personal growth.
• Develop individualized therapeutic plans that integrate nature-based interventions.
• Foster a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore emotional and psychological challenges.
• Collaborate with other clinical staff to ensure a comprehensive treatment approach for each client.
• Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of clients’ progress in therapy.
• Facilitation of outdoor activities and team-building exercises such as hiking, surfing, climbing, fishing, canoeing, etc.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during outdoor activities.
• Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution as needed.
• Document and maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress.

Education / Experience Qualifications

• Experience in adventure therapy or outdoor-based therapeutic practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field required, master’s degree and/or licensure preferred.
• Certified Adventure Therapist (CAT) credential and/or Wilderness and Adventure Therapy (WAT) credential preferred.
• Certification in First Aid and CPR required.
• Passion for working in a nature-based healing environment.
• If in recovery, one to two 2 years of uninterrupted sobriety preferred.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Demonstrable level of personal fitness is required including facilitation of and participation in physical activities such as hiking, walking, camping, and other recreational activities   
• Frequent standing and walking.
• Frequent lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching/stretching, bending/stooping, and repetitive motions

• Understanding of substance use and mental health disorders and their treatment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of outdoor survival skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate groups.
• Physical ability to participate in and lead outdoor activities.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to remote locations.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends.
