City: Brooklyn, NY
Salary: $70,000 - $95,000 per year
Contract type: Full time
FWD People is a full-service strategic marketing agency delivering meaningful and measurable results in the health and non-profit sectors. We take pride in being our clients' trusted strategic partner—staying ahead of the curve, and leveraging our expertise and foresight to help them navigate change and seize opportunities. We approach every challenge with a commitment to innovation, excellence, and empathy, and we seek the same qualities in our leaders. As a fast-growing, senior team, we're excited to welcome more forward-thinking individuals who will help us drive growth, foster positive change within our client's industries, and have fun along the way.

We’re looking for an Accountant to join our growing operations team. In this role you'll bring clarity, structure, and insight to the numbers that tell our story. You’ll help transform large sets of business transactions into a more robust financial framework — guiding how data moves, connects, and informs decisions across the agency. You’ll be the person who ensures that what’s on paper matches the pulse of the business: accurate, timely, and complete. This role is both foundational and progressive— perfect for someone who loves making sense of the details, spotting patterns, and creating order that fuels growth.

What You’ll Do

  • Own daily functional accounting areas while gaining exposure to ad hoc initiatives and projects.
  • Manage expense processing — ensuring teams stay within budget, provide proper documentation, and maintain accurate financial reporting.
  • Partner with business units to streamline expense tracking and improve efficiency.
  • Perform daily cash reviews and monthly bank reconciliations to support consistent cash flow tracking and client receivables.
  • Review and process vendor invoices for timely payment, maintaining strong relationships with partners and contractors.
  • Educate the team on the importance of accurate and efficient information collection for reporting.
  • Review the P&L and Balance Sheet to flag discrepancies and prepare necessary journal entries.
  • Prepare month-end accruals, reconciliations, and close deliverables for active projects.
  • Provide audit support and maintain accounting documentation for areas like cash, fixed assets, prepaids, and accruals.
  • Support the development of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls (SOX).
  • Identify and drive process improvements and system efficiencies.
  • Participate in accounting-related system implementations and special projects as needed.

What You’ll Bring

  • At least one year of accounting or audit experience and a foundation in GAAP and SOX.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field — CPA active or in progress a plus.
  • A natural curiosity about how day-to-day transactions tell the bigger story of a growing business.
  • A sharp eye for detail and the organization skills to juggle multiple priorities with calm focus.
  • Comfort working under tight deadlines and shifting priorities without losing accuracy or momentum.
  • Strong communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal — that make collaboration easy.
  • Proficiency in Excel and comfort working within Google Workspace (especially Sheets)
  • The ability to think through complex operational activities through the lens of accounting standards.
  • Excitement about building new schedules and reports that reveal insights and drive smarter decisions.
  • A positive, team-first attitude — willing to roll up your sleeves, pitch in, and help others succeed.
  • A self-motivated, adaptable, and solutions-oriented mindset that thrives in a dynamic environment.
  • Ownership without ego: you see the big picture, but you’re just as comfortable in the details.
