Brief Description

Position Summary

With oversight and direction from the Training Manager, the Training Instructor Coach position is responsible for implementing and executing training, program, evaluation, and delivery standards, coaching and mentoring Training Instructors, and facilitation of Alaska Primary Care Association’s (APCA) Workforce Development & Health Equity (WF/HE) trainings and programs. This position works in collaboration with WF/HE managers and teams to execute projects supporting workforce training. Areas of focus include (but are not limited to): delivery of grant-funded programs (AHEC, PATH, RAP Readiness, Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs), and other trainings), Community Health Center (CHC) workforce solutions, and professional development of WF/HE training staff.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities include The Following:

  • In collaboration with the WF/HE Training Manager, provide coaching, mentoring, and training to WF/HE Training Instructors to support growth and professional development.
  • Following guidance from the training manager assist with new instructors onboarding and credentialling to ensure continued program compliance and adequate instructor availability to support the training schedule.
  • Provide support and guidance to students navigating training pathways through or in partnership with APCA.
  • Gather and analyze data to determine improvements for training program planning and implementation strategies.
  • Collaborate with business partners and educational institutions to plan, promote and implement training opportunities in diverse communities throughout Alaska.
  • Collaborate with WF/HE leadership and program staff to ensure grant expectations, deadlines, and program/project outcomes are monitored and met.
  • Provide excellent customer service to program participants, internal and external customers, APCA staff, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Coordinate program delivery with and facilitate communication with industry partners, program participants, internal and external customers, and contracted vendors as directed by Training Manager, Senior Manager of Workforce, WF/HE Director, and/or APCA leadership.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with APCA staff, members, and partners.
  • Work in partnership with WF/HE managers and staff to implement, coordinate, improve, and expand programs and services.
  • Assist with managing and ensuring that assigned projects have sound evaluation plans established and implemented.
  • Assist with implementation and analysis of staff and participant evaluations.
  • Prepare instructional materials and environment for both virtual and in-person classroom.
  • Participate in outreach and recruiting efforts as needed to support strengthening partnerships and participant enrollment.
  • Track participant progress in programs to include attendance, class participation, required assessments, certifications, and course completion.
  • Track participant engagement, experience, and knowledge transfer using various strategies including (but not limited to): one-on-one communications, feedback surveys, evaluations, databases, training platforms, etc.
  • Manage assigned projects to include timelines, deliverables, and communication.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert based on education and experience for the Learning & Development team on curriculum development and improvement projects.
  • Accurately collect, maintain, evaluate, update, and analyze various forms of data as it relates to participant and program records.
  • In collaboration with WF/HE leaders and staff, facilitate and manage peer network meetings; communication, meeting set up, minutes, record-keeping, etc.
  • Assist with promoting and maintaining positive interagency working relationships with the membership organizations of the APCA.
  • Assist with educating and advocating, where appropriate, regarding improvement of health care access and reduction of health disparities in underserved communities.
  • Assist with the evaluation and analysis of problems, and the selection and implementation of effective course of corrective action as needed.
  • Support, assist, and contribute to the preparation of agency, department, and grant reports.
  • Follow and contribute to the development and continuous improvement of APCA policies, guidelines, processes, and procedures relevant to workforce training programs, services, and assigned projects.

Required

Qualifications / Knowledge

  • Associate’s degree in related field or related year for year experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in training/classroom instruction.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in a lead training/facilitation/coaching role. A recognized certification in the training industry may be substituted in lieu of experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills supported by documented experience and professional references.
  • Experience in successfully facilitating staff and community stakeholder meetings.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of a computer for work processing, spreadsheet use, communication via email, and for conducting research via the Internet. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows required.
  • Must possess a valid Alaska driver’s license.
  • Must have consistent access to insured reliable private transportation.
  • Recognized training industry certification (Certified Professional in Talent Development, Certified Professional in Training, Adult Learning, Associate Coaching, Certified Learning Facilitator, etc.) 2-4 years instructor qualification for current APCA PATH stackable credentials (MHFA, Mandt, BLS, First aid, and Blood-borne pathogen) may be substituted.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, and/or leading training teams.
  • Proficient with traditional and modern training processes, methodologies, and delivery methods.
  • Experience with training evaluation and analysis based on industry standards.
  • Previous experience in community health centers, the Alaska Healthcare industry, primary care associations, social service, University/College, Workforce Development, and/or non-profit setting.

Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to obtain a recognized certification for coaching within a year of hire.
  • Experience working with state and local partnerships, especially those serving rural Alaskan communities.
  • Understanding of underserved populations in Alaska, Alaska’s health workforce training systems, as well as the needs and opportunities within Alaska’s health care systems and communities.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of professionals and organizations across social and cultural differences in diverse populations.
  • Ability to work as a team member and support organizational decisions. Candidate must always promote the APCA in a positive light both internally among staff and externally among members and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate, interact, and connect with audiences of all backgrounds and experience levels while achieving a desired outcome.
  • Ability to develop, maintain and promote constructive relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and to plan and execute projects and tasks in a timely, responsive, accurate and thorough manner while adhering to APCA’s and funders’ policies and guidelines.

Supervisory Relationship

Received

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Training Manager. Performance is assessed through review of work, integration, and cooperation within the Department and APCA, communication with all stakeholders, quality and timeliness of deliverables and associated criteria.

Required

Language Skills

  • Fluency in written and spoken English required.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.

Travel Required

In-state travel required; approximately 20% for state-wide program facilitation (may require travel to remote locations). In-city travel by personal vehicle for meetings, tasks, and errands as needed. Some out-of-state travel may occur. Mileage is reimbursed per APCA policy.

Hours per Week

This is a full-time position, 40 hours/week. Generally, the hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Physical Requirements

This position is classified as light work under the U.S. Department of Labor’s physical demand categories. Light work involves:

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and moving throughout training environments (classrooms, offices, or event spaces).
  • Occasional setup and teardown of materials or equipment for training sessions, meetings, or presentations.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for operating computers, audiovisual equipment, and instructional tools.
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to engage with participants, read instructional materials, and deliver effective presentations.

Work Environment

Duties will generally be performed in an office setting with travel and associated accommodations throughout the local area, the state of Alaska, and the Lower 48 as needed.
