Job Summary:
The Mississippi Schools for the Deaf and Blind (MSDB) is seeking a versatile, forward-thinking,
and proactive Systems Administrator to manage and support the institution’s technology
infrastructure, user needs, and cloud platforms. This position plays a vital role in supporting
daily operations, instructional technology, and strategic IT initiatives across campus, and requires
hands-on technical expertise in managing devices, maintaining network security, and
administering both on-premises and cloud-based systems in a K-12 educational environment.
The successful candidate will have a comprehensive technical background, strong
communication skills, and a service-oriented mindset—particularly within a K-12 educational
setting. The Systems Administrator will also ensure solutions and operational issues are
thoroughly documented using the helpdesk knowledge base (KB), and consistent with the MSDB
long-term roadmap for wired and wireless services.
The role also includes managing Apple devices using Mosyle MDM, Azure MDM for managing
Microsoft devices and working knowledge of Google Workspace for Education.
Key Responsibilities:
Systems and Infrastructure Support
- Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, software applications, and a variety of network hardware devices to include printers, Promethean boards, iPads, PC’s, and
MacBooks.
- Perform hardware and software upgrades and provide troubleshooting for faculty, staff, and classroom equipment
- Propose and implement approved enhancements to improve the performance and reliability of MSDB’s IT infrastructure.
- Provide on-call support as necessary to respond to urgent issues and service disruptions.
- Rapidly deploy approved patches and fixes in response to newly identified stability and security threats.
Device Management (Mosyle MDM)
- Enrollment & Configuration: Enroll, configure, and manage Apple devices (iPhones, iPads, Macs) using Mosyle MDM.
- User Support: Troubleshoot issues related to performance, compliance, and app usage.
- Security Compliance: Maintain security policies, enforce encryption, and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
- Policy Management: Deploy apps, configure settings, and manage enterprise mobility across devices.
Networking & Security
- Configure network devices, email clients, and printers.
- Troubleshoot and maintain network infrastructure, including protocols such as VLAN, VPN, SMTP, DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory.
- Provide detailed configuration and setup information for networking devices.
- Recommend and coordinate installation of new network drops in collaboration with facilities and IT staff.
- Implement and manage cybersecurity measures including firewalls, antivirus, two-factor authentication, and secure access controls.
- Review and analyze system and security logs for unauthorized traffic or suspicious activity.
- Create and enforce best practices for data protection, backup, and disaster recovery.
- Monitor and manage FortiGate firewalls and utilize Securly for web filtering.
User, Account, & Helpdesk Management
- Manage user accounts, permissions, organizational units, and roles across various platforms
- Provide remote and on-site support using RealVNC and a centralized helpdesk system.
- Collaborate with IT staff, vendors, and users to resolve issues efficiently.
- Support deployment and management of Windows 11, macOS, and iOS devices.
- Administer PaperCut print server, Mosyle MDM, Azure MDM, and Google Workspace for Education.
Cloud & Platform Administration
- Manage Microsoft cloud environments, including:
- Microsoft Intune for Education
- Microsoft Entra ID
- Microsoft 365
- Intune Admin Center
- Manage the Kisi cloud-based physical access control system.
- Provide remote user support using RealVNC.
Google Workspace Administrator Responsibilities
- Manage user accounts, organizational units, roles, and group memberships.
- Implement security policies (e.g., 2FA, DLP), configure core apps (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Meet), and resolve Workspace-related issues.
- Monitor usage, system health, and logs; generate administrative reports.
- Integrate Workspace with other systems and automate workflows through scripting or APIs.
- Provide training and documentation for staff and students.
- Stay up to date with evolving Google Workspace tools, features, and best practices.
Access Control & Asset Management
- Manage Kisi cloud-based access control systems.
- Track and maintain accurate inventory records for hardware, software licenses, and accessories.
Helpdesk and Collaboration
- Use a centralized helpdesk system to log, prioritize, and resolve technical issues, enhancing customer satisfaction and support efficiency.
- Work with vendors, end-users, and technology team members to solve problems and implement solutions.
Other Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology, Executive Director of Business and Operations, or the Superintendent.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Frequent standing, sitting, walking, reaching; occasional lifting (up to 50–100 lbs).
- Occasional stooping, climbing, or crawling to access network and hardware components.
- Some travel may be required, along with availability during evenings or weekends.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50–100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision.
- This position may require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen.
- May involve occasional travel and working evenings or weekends in response to system needs or emergencies.
Skills & Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in system administration, preferably in education.
- Expertise in Microsoft Azure components, Apple School Manager (ASM), Mosyle MDM, and Google Workspace for Education
- Strong understanding of IT security, networking, and user support.
- Experience with helpdesk systems, remote support, and K-12 educational environments.
- Knowledge of scripting languages and APIs for automation is a plus.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Certifications
- Google Certified Administrator
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
- CompTIA Network+ or Security+
- Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP)
