Job Description
Will require travel from Midland to Woodland Hospice House
Responsible for overall leadership of Volunteer Services for MyMichigan Home Care. Responsible for the recruitment, training, orientation, coordination and supervision of volunteers needed for various responsibilities within the MyMichigan Home Care.
Responsibilities
(25%)* Plans, implements and evaluates the volunteer program for the Hospice program. Anticipates volume change and needs by program requests and geographic location.
(50%)* Responsible for the recruitment, training and ongoing education to the volunteers providing services in Home Care and any of the expanded programs that utilize volunteers.
(15%)* Provides general oversight of Hospice program fundraising activities.
(5%)* Collaborates with Volunteer leadership within MyMichigan Health in order to gain efficiency, effectiveness and reasonable commonality with the health system.
(5%)* Responsible for all policies and procedures in relationship to volunteer activity within MyMichigan Homecare as well as all regulatory compliance requirements.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates management and commitment by role modeling, setting standards, being visible and available, using organizational position to move things, solving problems, holding people accountable and being willing to take risks for the sake of making improvements.
Communicates and promotes volunteer services to reflect the MyMichigan Health mission and standards of quality.
Maintains and shares knowledge with others regarding departmental and unit changes through attendance and participation in continuing education programs, department meetings, in services and through careful review of posted material. Maintain tactful and effective communication with volunteers, the public and internal stakeholders.
Provides for patients/residents safety, privacy and dignity at all times; responds promptly to patient/family needs.
Holds volunteers accountable for their role in achieving high standards and service quality expectations through communications of policies and practices, coaching and discipline.
Adheres to MyMichigan Healths mission, goals, policies/procedures and roles of conduct.
Fulfills legal and ethical responsibilities as required by federal , state, JCAHO and other regulatory agencies.
Responsible to implement, educate, adhere to and detect noncompliance with Corporate Compliance policies and procedures.
Demonstrates ongoing effective methods for measurement of departmental performances, participates and provides feedback to department and agency wide continuous quality improvement activities, contributes to problem-solving in the department.
Provides orientation for new volunteers provides feedback on progress of new volunteers, involves volunteers and other managers in problem solving to refine processes so theyre user friendly, efficient and responsive to customer expectations.
Provides constructive feedback regarding self and others work performance when requested; treats mistakes by self and others as occasions for learning.
Promotes the concept that volunteers be considered an integral part of the Agencys quality service initiates.
Uses a variety of communication methods keeping volunteers aware of customer feedback and service performance.
Coaches volunteers in goal development through the provision of skill training, orientation and competency maintenance.
Recognizes that volunteers serve as community representatives and arranges for education experiences which will clarify the philosophy, function and current direction of the agency.
Recognizes and rewards those individuals and groups who distinguish themselves by their excellent service to customers, courtesy and innovative contributions.
Uses innovative reminders and refreshers to keep customer service improvement a priority.
Supports ongoing development and implementation of volunteer programs and fundraisers.
Responsible for adhering to the budget for volunteer services.
Conducts annual evaluation of volunteers.
Volunteer coordination: Participates in IDT and coordinates volunteer services to meet patient/family needs as identified by the patient/family.
Schedules volunteers for assignments based on needs of patient/family and agency needs such as patient support, office support, bereavement, spiritual care and special events.
Assists in planning, organizing and participates in events and activities such as volunteer recognition, memorial services, ect.
Documentation and quality monitoring: preparation of monthly and annual report of volunteer hours and mileage.
Maintains volunteer records in accordance with CMS COP.
Ensures maintenance of current list of volunteer names, addresses and phones numbers.
Review written documentation by volunteers and monitors content for follow up.

Experience in healthcare or healthcare related work.
Computer skills: word, excel, PowerPoint. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in writing and public speaking.

Ability to work with others cooperatively.
Knowledge of volunteer community resources.
Management and organizational skills.
Previous work with volunteers preferred.
Able to flex work hours to meet training, event and patient scheduling needs.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
