Montgomery County ESC has a position available in the Region 10 State Support Team for a Regional Math Specialist.

The regional Mathematics specialist will assist a group of identified schools in developing its capacity through direct coaching and support within

the district and identified building(s). This work will be integrated into the application of leadership structures and the improvement frameworks

as implemented by districts with the support of the State Support Teams. The regional mathematics specialist will provide and support the

delivery of services related to the implementation of an integrated multi-tiered system of supports for mathematics through guidance, technical

assistance coaching and networking opportunities.

Position Qualifications

The following are the minimum qualifications of the personnel:

  • Must hold an Ohio teaching license.
  • Demonstrated expertise in improving student learning through research- and evidence-based instructional strategies for mathematics.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Ohio’s Plan for K12 Mathematics, Ohio Learning Standards for Mathematics, Standards for Mathematical Practice, and

Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices.

  • Experience delivering mathematics instruction within a Universal Design for Learning educational framework.
  • Understanding of differentiation of instruction through the use of high-quality instructional materials.
  • A minimum of three to five years of successful classroom teaching experience in mathematics instruction across K-12 grade levels.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering professional learning and technical assistance designed to improve instructional practices for

educators.

  • Strong coaching and consulting skills to support teachers in implementing the Standards for Mathematical Practice and Effective Mathematics

Teaching Practices.

  • Ability to analyze and apply student performance data, including data for student groups including but not limited to students with disabilities, to

enhance instruction and curriculum alignment.

  • Experience working with administrators to implement systemic improvements in mathematics education, particularly for students in lower-

performing student groups.

  • An understanding of integrated Multi-Tiered System of Supports (IMTSS), including Tier 1 core instruction and Tier 2 & 3 interventions with data-

based individualization.

The Following Are The Preferred Qualifications Of The Personnel

  • A master’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field (curriculum, administration, etc.).
  • Experience providing instruction in special education, with a master’s degree in special education/intervention specialist license.
  • Experience providing instruction to individuals with dyscalculia or individuals experiencing mathematics difficulties.
  • Experience providing and coaching for mathematics instruction.
  • Experience facilitating and interpreting screening measures for identifying students at risk for mathematics failure.
  • Familiarity with Ohio Materials Matter and its role in supporting high-quality instructional resources.
  • Experience facilitating or participating in plan-do-study-act cycles (i.e., collaborative problem-solving model, etc.).
