Product Designer

DatologyAI

Date: 1 week ago
City: Redwood City, CA
Contract type: Full time
About The Company

Companies want to train their own large models on their own data. The current industry standard is to train on a random sample of your data, which is inefficient at best and actively harmful to model quality at worst. There is compelling research showing that smarter data selection can train better models faster—we know because we did much of this research. Given the high costs of training, this presents a huge market opportunity. We founded DatologyAI to translate this research into tools that enable enterprise customers to identify the right data on which to train, resulting in better models for cheaper. Our team has pioneered deep learning data research, built startups, and created tools for enterprise ML. For more details, check out our recent blog posts sharing our high-level results for text models and image-text models.

We've raised over $57M in funding from top investors like Radical Ventures, Amplify Partners, Felicis, Microsoft, Amazon, and notable angels like Jeff Dean, Geoff Hinton, Yann LeCun and Elad Gil. We're rapidly scaling our team and computing resources to revolutionize data curation across modalities.

This role is based in Redwood City, CA. We are in office 4 days a week.

About The Role

As our first design hire, you’ll lay the groundwork for our design function and shape the way users experience our platform from the ground up.

You’ll lead user research, prototype and test core product flows, design data visualizations, and craft intuitive and visually appealing interfaces that simplify complex workflows. You'll work closely with leadership, customers, and partners to build a best-in-class data curation product. This is a rare opportunity to influence product direction at an early stage and make a lasting impact on how users engage with powerful data tools.

What You’ll Work On

  • Collaborate closely with engineering and research teams to define and execute both long-term strategy and short-term deliverables
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that balance user needs with technical constraints
  • Develop intuitive and visually appealing interfaces that simplify complex data operations and workflows
  • Conduct user research, usability testing, and analysis to understand pain points and validate design solutions
  • Maintain and evolve our emerging design system and style guide to ensure product scalability and consistency.
  • Help establish our design culture as an early design team member

About You

  • 5+ years of experience designing digital products, with a portfolio showcasing strong UX, UI, and interaction design skills
  • Experience simplifying complex technical concepts into intuitive user experiences
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate design decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proficiency with design tools like Figma and other prototyping software
  • Comfortable working in an ambiguous, fast-paced startup environment
  • Ability to balance short-term deliverables with long-term vision
  • Experience designing for technical or enterprise users is a plus
  • Self-motivated problem solver who can work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS is a plus.
  • Experience working as an early designer at a startup is a plus
