Portfolio Analyst - Investments

Security Benefit (SB) is seeking a Portfolio Analyst to support the investment grade fixed income directive in our Investments Department. Security Benefit fosters strong partnerships to provide insightful and customized retirement solutions for employers and individual investors nationwide. Through a broad advisor network and its nationally recognized money managers, Security Benefit provides mutual funds, annuities and retirement programs. This position will work in our Des Moines, Iowa office. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

What Does the Job Look Like?

• Assist portfolio managers, analysts, and traders across asset classes (Asset-Based Finance, Corporate Credit, Private Equity/Alternatives) including the staging of trades, compliance checks, trade allocations across accounts, and execution.
• Provide investment managers with security, portfolio, and benchmark information.
• Assist with financial analysis and overall due diligence on existing positions and new potential investments to understand business and/or collateral performance, deal structure, industry trends, market dynamics, and assessment of investment risk.
• Support management of Security Benefit’s investment portfolio which includes trade support, pricing, audit/finance/investment operation requests, legal documentation, and regulatory matters.
• Collaborate with multiple teams, including but not limited to the Operations, Performance, Investment Accounting, and Legal teams to ensure efficient and timely completion of required responsibilities.
• Conduct performance attribution analysis, pricing evaluations, and security analytics reviews to support investment decisions.
• Perform periodic and ad hoc reporting and diligence, including:
• Portfolio coverage and performance trackers
• Security level modeling, data population, and credit analysis
• Research and relative value analysis across key sectors and portfolios
• Clearly articulate investment processes and assist in the delivery of high-quality investment reporting material.

Who Are You?

• Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related fields with exemplary academic performance
• Desire to attain CFA designation and/or MBA preferred (support provided)
• Proficient expertise in quantitative, analytical, modeling, and financial analysis skills
• Robust skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications
• Ideal candidate will be well organized, independent, entrepreneurial, assertive, self-motivated, detail oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects
• Ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, possessing a strong desire to understand complex transactions and situations in a dynamic environment
• Strong work ethic with a team-oriented approach
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization and develop/maintain external relationships
