Summary

We’re seeking a proactive, accountable, and detail-oriented People & Culture Generalist to help build and support a high-integrity, high-performance culture. In this role, you will take ownership of driving results across HR operations, employee experience, compliance, engagement, and benefits support. You will be expected to anticipate needs, solve problems before they escalate, and partner across all levels of the organization to ensure Curio Wellness continues scaling in a way that aligns with our mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

Onboarding & Integration

  • Create a warm handoff from the talent acquisition team for the new hire till they start day one with their trainers and manager.
  • Own and coordinate all onboarding tasks (badging, IT setup, equipment, agendas, security access, invites etc.), ensuring new hires are fully prepared for day one.
  • Support new hire orientations and act as a resource during early employee integration.
  • Gather and analyze feedback from new hires and proactively recommend improvements to strengthen the onboarding experience.

Engagement, Culture & Programs

  • Take initiative in planning, coordinating, and executing employee engagement activities: events, recognition programs, and feedback surveys.
  • Assist with employee communications: draft and distribute newsletters, announcements, and updates that promote clarity and transparency.
  • Support Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) initiatives by coordinating events, activities, and communications that foster belonging.
  • Track participation and engagement metrics for events and programs; own the results by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Create and manage the annual employee engagement calendar, including wellness events, engagement activities, recognition programs, and contests.
  • Implement programs and initiatives that strengthen an inclusive and engaging workplace culture.
  • Partner with leadership to improve HR programs, processes, and tools; raise issues early and drive solutions.
  • Support Talent Development and L&D teams in coordination of employee hiring events, training efforts, and activities.

Records, Compliance & Administration

  • Maintain accurate and compliant employee records and personnel files.
  • Perform periodic audits of employee files, I-9s, benefit files, ACA compliance, performance reviews, and job descriptions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct an annual review of the employee handbook; recommend and implement new policies or revisions to align with changes in laws and evolving company practices.
  • Ensure that HR practices and company policies adhere to all applicable labor laws and regulations.
  • Partner with the Safety team to manage workers’ compensation claims and oversee the return-to-work process, ensuring compliance and support for employees.
  • Support People & Culture leadership with policy updates, compliance requirements, and audits.
  • Serve as a backup for benefits and payroll administration: respond to employee inquiries, assist with enrollments, and partner with benefits and payroll vendors when needed.
  • Manage and process state badge renewals for employees.

Offboarding

  • Own the employee off-boarding process, including exit interviews, coordination of final pay and benefits, and ensuring proper documentation and system updates.
  • Conduct trend analysis of exit interview data and provide insights to P&C leadership on recurring themes.
  • Ensure terminated employee access (IT, security, systems) is closed in partnership with IT/Operations.

Other Responsibilities

  • Provide general HR support across manufacturing, cultivation, retail, and corporate teams, ensuring consistent service delivery.
  • Take responsibility for assigned HR projects and initiatives (policy rollouts, system upgrades, culture initiatives, etc.), ensuring timely and effective completion.
  • Model Extreme Ownership behaviors: step up when challenges arise, support your teammates, communicate with clarity, and never pass blame — always focus on solutions.

Who You Are / Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of HR experience in generalist or People & Culture roles.
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related field.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar HR certification is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights.
  • High attention to detail, especially for audit and compliance tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; approachable, helpful, and collaborative.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks and outcomes, follow through, and hold yourself accountable.
  • Comfortable handling multiple tasks concurrently in a fast-paced, growing environment.
  • Willingness to be on-site 5 days/week, rotating between Towson corporate office, plant, and retail locations.
