Payroll Specialist/Accounting Assistant

Come join our team of dedicated staff! Bethany Lutheran Homes d.b.a. Eagle Crest Communities is looking for a Payroll Specialist/Accounting Assistant to join our Corporate team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the payroll functions and various financial and accounting functions for 550+ employees, and reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer. This position will also work under the supervision of the Human Resources Director performing various compensation and benefit functions.

What You’ll Do

  • Processes biweekly payroll accurately and timely
  • Prepares and maintains all payroll reports (monthly, quarterly, and annually to include 941, W2, W3, etc.)
  • Ensures timely and accurate payment of payroll taxes
  • Provides payroll related training to new managers, and ensures departmental compliance with payroll related laws and personnel policies
  • Tracks and reconciles employee claim submissions for the Flexible Benefit Plans (FSA & HRA), and maintains an accurate list of employees enrolled in benefits like COBRA, life insurance plans, health, dental, etc.
  • Assists the CFO with the annual budget process, primarily with FTE's and salaries budgets.
  • Remains informed and knowledgeable with respect to specific financial and accounting data pertaining to the Corporation.
  • Cross-train and serve as a backup to the other accounting functions.
  • Responsible for file maintenance, as well as safeguarding entrusted confidential information.

What You’ll Need

  • Associates degree in accounting required, or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of one year (2080 hours) experience in general accounting and payroll is required; 3-5 years is preferred
  • Certified Payroll Professional preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively to supervisors, the corporate team, employees, and the general public (as needed) through various communication methods
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and general accounting software
  • Ability to operate office equipment such as a computer, calculator, copier, telephone, etc., as well as learn new equipment and software as necessary.
