Patriot Engineering and Environmental is looking for a Branch Manager to join our talented and impactful team to serve and lead our new Kalamazoo, Michigan office.

Headquartered in Indianapolis, IN, Patriot Engineering and Environmental is an employee owned, diverse engineering firm with a multi-state locations and presence providing geotechnical, environmental, and construction materials testing services and consultation to commercial, industrial and governmental clients.

This position will be r esponsible for operational management of the branch office including geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing/inspection, environmental services and related lab and field testing and will team with technical and support team leads to deliver the highest quality client service.

Essential Functions:

Branch Management Duties

  • Leadership and Accountability of operational management of the branch office including but not limited to technical services, staff, financial performance, technical excellence, safety and business development.
  • Develop and maintain an environment which embeds Patriot Core Values of High Ethical Standards | Great Management Practices | Safety | Profitability | Innovative and Sustainable Growth.
  • Prepare budgets, monitor financial performance, and adjust strategies to maximize the location’s profit.
  • Build a skilled and cohesive team through recruitment, development and mentoring of professional, technical, & administrative staff.

Project management

  • Responsible for developing scope, schedule and budget for new projects. Prepare proposals and sell services to clients. Manage projects to each element.
  • Manage other project-related business metrics such as write off, accounts receivables and work in process. These items are closely monitored through firm-wide reporting, reviewed and often used as an element of performance evaluation.

Client relationships

  • Responsible for maintenance and retention of clients through quality services, effective communication and efficient use of resources on projects.
  • Add value to clients by providing dual-benefit solutions, linking to other business drivers, bringing efficiencies to project and suggesting ways to achieve regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for significant client interface at the project level.
  • Responsible for meeting and managing the technical service needs of multiple clients of varying size, type and complexity of needs.

Business development

  • Responsible for sustaining and improving relationships with clients, including the expectation to cross-market or refer other Patriot services – providing support in securing new clients and opportunities for the growth of the firm.
  • Prepare and respond to requests for services with written proposals.
  • Ability to coordinate and work well with other project managers, branch managers, owners and business development and marketing managers and contribute accordingly toward achievement of Patriot’s business development objectives.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor or Associate degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related science. Michigan PE is a plus, but not required.
  • Minimum of 8 years industry experience. Materials expertise in soils, concrete, asphalt , and aggregate is more important than geotechnical experience. Demonstrated experience and strong working knowledge of materials testing, and geotechnical engineering is desired.
  • Experience with Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) specs and methods.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff management, project management and profit & loss experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - ability to have hard conversations with clients and staff alike.
  • Experience and ability to utilize management and financial softwares.
