The Role You’ll Contribute
The Patient Safety Specialist is a qualified individual who provides direction and support for patient safety, quality improvement, and learning systems for safety culture and high reliability under the oversight of the quality leadership team. The specialist is responsible for providing a planned, systemic approach to identifying, designing, measuring and monitoring patient safety process improvement activities. The Patient Safety Specialist has a comprehensive understanding of data and analytic tools as well as health care information systems and technology with an advanced ability to apply these methodologies to extrapolate data, analyze and report in a meaningful format to inform and drive performance improvement activities. Functions as the local project liaison for the Patient Safety Organization through responsibility for the accuracy and transfer of patient safety work product entry into the patient safety evaluation system. The scope of work includes education and training on patient safety programs; data management for the investigation, analysis and monitoring of patient safety/harm prevention activities; and compliance with regulatory standards/guidelines. Responsible for planning, implementation & monitoring of interventions to ensure evidence-based practices are implemented and participates in and/or leads performance improvement committees as directed. Assures facilitation of the patient grievance process as required by state and federal statutes. Functions as a key member of the quality, risk, and patient safety team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- SERVICE:
- Serves as the Patient Safety Organization (PSO) liaison with responsibility to oversee, manage, and direct all appropriate data to the Patient Safety Evaluation System. Accountable for receipt and distribution of Patient Safety Work Product from the contracted Patient Safety Organization(s) as legally required by Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act
- Annually participates in the evaluation of the patient safety evaluation system to ensure a highly reliable system approach to patient safety, quality, and the journey to zero harm
- Collaborates with local leaders to identify safety initiatives, facilitate the use of data to improve processes, and submission of patient safety evaluation system components
- Leads performance improvement teams on local projects with a focus on reliability, regulatory compliance, and sustainability of evidence-based practices. Projects including mortality, readmission, patient safety indicators, and infection prevention.
- Facilitates participation in patient safety performance improvement utilizing lean tools and techniques, PDSA, change management approaches and human factor re-engineering
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Education And Experience Required
- Nursing Degree
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree
- 5 years clinical nursing experience
- Nursing Leadership experience
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Florida
- Six Sigma Performance Improvement Certification
- LEAN Performance Improvement Certification
- Team STEPPS Certification
- Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS)
