Employees work both in office and field environments. Office work involves moderate noise and controlled temperatures with no direct exposure to hazards. Employees also interact with the public and staff when enforcing policies and procedures.

- Performs a wide variety of patrol and related duties involving the enforcement of City parks and open space land use regulations and applicable laws to ensure safe and efficient access for the public and staff.
- Patrols an assigned area consisting of City parks, trails, open spaces, and facilities by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to ensure safe and proper use of City lands and facilities; responds to public inquiries and complaints; checks for and reports hazards.
- Interprets and enforces City regulations and pertinent local, state, and federal regulations; addresses violations; issues verbal warnings and/or citations as appropriate in the capacity of a Peace Officer under the California Penal Code.
- Performs minor maintenance activities on City properties and related facilities to ensure safe and efficient access for the public and staff; tasks may include, but are not limited to, removal of downed trees and debris on trails, vegetation clearance, sign and fence repair, cleanup and disposal of hazardous materials, hypodermic needles, other drug paraphernalia, and related tasks; detects and reports any vandalism, necessary repairs, or safety concerns to appropriate staff.Â
- Responds to emergency medical incidents, search and rescue, and other similar calls; notifies appropriate medical, law enforcement, and/or fire response agencies; assumes incident command; assesses and secures accident scenes; provides traffic and crowd control; provides first responder emergency medical attention.
- Acts as a representative to visitors, City staff, and the general public regarding questions, problems, concerns, and activities within City lands and related facility areas; coordinates use of lands and facilities with Recreation staff;Â responds to requests for service or provides referrals to other departments and divisions as appropriate.
- Maintains regular communication with code enforcement, law enforcement, fire, other City departments, and outside agencies related to activities within City lands and facilities.Â
- Performs routine administrative tasks such as filing, answering telephones, and preparing forms, reports, and accounting documents.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of written logs, records, reports, and files related to work performed, including incident/accident reports, daily logs, and activity reports.
- Attends trainings, workshops, and classes related to job duties.
- Observes and complies with City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Office Environment
- Mobility to work in a standard office setting and operate office equipment, including a computer.
- Vision to read printed materials and computer screens; hearing and speech to communicate in person, by phone, and by radio.
- Finger dexterity for data entry, calculator use, and office equipment operation.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and pulling/pushing drawers to retrieve files.
- Field Inspection
- Mobility to work in varied site conditions; strength, stamina, and mobility for light to medium physical work.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces, climb ladders, and operate a motor vehicle.
- Vision to inspect site conditions and monitor work in progress.
- Frequent walking in operational areas with possible exposure to hazardous materials.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance from other staff.
