Packaging Engineer

American Plastics, headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, is a leading designer and manufacturer of innovative plastic-injection molded products for the household & garage storage and commercial cleaning end-markets. We are searching for a Packaging Engineer for our North Carolina or Findlay Ohio Innovation Center. This position will report to the Vice President of Engineering. This position is a hybrid position.
The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing packaging solutions for our products. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure packaging meets regulatory requirements, enhances product protection, and improves sustainability.
Responsibilities
• Design and develop packaging concepts that meet product specifications and customer needs.
• Conduct material selection and testing to ensure packaging durability and functionality.
• Collaborate with R&D, marketing, and production teams to integrate packaging into new product development.
• Analyze packaging processes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness, recommending improvements as needed.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, including sustainability initiatives.
• Manage packaging project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
• Create and maintain documentation related to packaging designs, specifications, and procedures.
• Conduct cost analysis and optimization of packaging materials and processes.
• Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in packaging technology.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• 5 years of experience in packaging engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in CAD software and packaging design tools.
• Strong understanding of materials science and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with sustainability practices in packaging.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements for packaging in the plastics industry.
• Familiarity with testing methods for packaging performance.
