Position Description
LC is a legal services program committed to achieving justice for the low-income communities of Oregon by providing a full range of the highest quality civil legal services. OLC operates eleven offices around the state. It has a litigation support unit, legislative advocacy unit, and statewide farmworker program.
OLC strives to create a supportive work culture enriched by values of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for all staff. Our commitment to advancing DEI work is deeply connected to our ability to achieve client-oriented advocacy and access to justice for our low-income communities. The diversity of our staff is a strength and an asset to our organization that helps reflect and effectively advocate for our low-income client communities of diverse backgrounds.
POSITION: The Oregon Law Center (OLC) seeks a staff attorney to provide civil legal services to low-income clients. This position is located in Eugene and serves clients throughout Lane County. OLC’s Lane County office consists of thirteen attorneys (including the advertised position), four legal assistants, and one senior law administrator. We set priorities according to client needs. Current priorities are housing law, domestic violence, senior law, immigration law, and public benefits. We seek to make real improvements in clients’ lives and to help eliminate the underlying causes of poverty.
The staff attorney will handle individual cases representing low-income litigants and impact litigation focused on advancing the needs of the communities we serve. The attorney will conduct community education and outreach to clients and community-based groups, which may include irregular hours and some travel. There are also opportunities to promote the interests of low-income individuals in the development and implementation of laws, regulations, policies and practices that directly affect our clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will provide legal services in at least one of our priority areas of practice, one of which will be housing or family law. Our family law practice includes representing clients who are survivors of abuse in restraining order and domestic relations matters, and our housing practice includes representing clients in eviction, habitability, and other matters. Our public benefits practice focuses on assisting clients in administrative processes. The attorney will provide high quality, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive legal services to all clients. The attorney will also work with community partners, help the office identify impact issues and conduct outreach to our client community.
SALARY/BENEFITS: Compensation is based on a 35-hour work week and ranges from $65,500 – $102,500, based on years of experience as an attorney. Additional compensation for bilingual ability. Competitive benefits package includes individual and family health, vision and dental insurance coverage, 6% employer retirement contribution, generous paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, and paid moving expenses, among others
