Brief Description

CAMS is seeking a results-driven Operations Manager to oversee daily operations at the Linden Generating Station, a 1,300 MW dual fuel combined cycle plant located in Linden, New Jersey. This facility features GE 7FA gas turbines, D-11 steam turbines, and associated systems that deliver reliable power to the PJM grid.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Operations Manager leads a team of 20 skilled professionals and is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, technical knowledge, and a passion for continuous improvement to maximize plant performance and availability.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead plant operations to meet safety, environmental, reliability, and profitability goals.
  • Operate the plant to optimize fuel usage and minimize the cost of generation while preserving asset longevity.
  • Direct and coordinate operating personnel to meet generation targets and fuel handling efficiency.
  • Monitor and improve plant performance using data-driven strategies and KPIs.
  • Manage day-to-day employee performance, development, and workforce planning in alignment with company policies and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Administer station procedures and labor policies in a union environment.
  • Support recruitment, training, and retention of a multi-skilled operations team.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Engineering teams to coordinate outages and maintenance activities.
  • Lead emergency response and support 24/7 on-call coverage as needed.
  • Ensure environmental compliance and uphold high standards of regulatory stewardship (EH&S, NERC, etc.).
  • Maintain and manage plant documentation, including logs, reports, and compliance records.
  • Oversee on-site fuel inventory to support dispatch flexibility and reliability.
  • Communicate plant performance and operational activities to internal and external stakeholders.


Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in power plant operations and maintenance, with strong gas/steam turbine knowledge.
  • Must hold a New Jersey Red Seal Engineer’s License, with the ability to acquire a Gold Seal License within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Proven leadership experience in power generation, including union workforce management and CBA familiarity.
  • Strong understanding of EH&S, NERC, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience managing operational budgets and basic cost reporting.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of fossil power plant systems and controls.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, plant monitoring systems, and reporting tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.


Desired Qualifications

  • New Jersey Gold Seal Engineer’s License (preferred at time of hire).
  • Experience with state, local, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and unionized environments.

Summary

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.

Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, and relevant qualifications.

This range represents the base salary and does not include other forms of compensation, such as bonuses, benefits, or equity, which may be offered in addition to the base pay.
