The Role You'll Contribute

The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner functions as a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for NPD specialty and partner for practice transitions as they guide the learner toward desired outcomes. The NPD Practitioner continuously uses environmental scanning to intentionally assess opportunities and challenges within and externally to the organization, and identifies opportunities based on global and national healthcare trends, legislative changes, needs of collaborative partners, educational gaps, emerging technologies, and the clinical staff members desire for growth. The NPD Practitioner actively interacts with learners to contribute to nursing professional development processes and ensures the achievement of measurable outcomes, influences professional role competence and growth of learners in a variety of settings.

  • The NPD Practitioner demonstrates, through behavior, alignment with AdventHealths mission, vision, and service standards. The principal duties and job responsibilities are based on the Standards of the Association of Nursing Professional Development.
  • Orientation/Onboarding: Creates, plans, implements, and coordinates orientation for individuals new to the nursing unit/department using the NPD standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation with the NPD Practice model using inputs, throughputs, and outcomes to ensure a systematic approach to onboarding orientation.
  • Competency Management: Creates, plans, implements, and coordinates activities related to training of new graduates, experienced nurses, and ancillary staff new to the unit/department based on collection of data that is used systematically and purposefully to ensure relevant and evidence-based learning for each clinician.
  • Education/Continuing Nursing Education: Designs engaging, interactive, state of the art educational activities/plans rooted in adult learning principles; implements and coordinates activities related to clinical practice and lifelong career development. Integrates regulatory standards to meet the requirements for continuing education contact hours, when appropriate.
  • Professional Role Development: NPD Practitioner may assist others in their professional role development, practice role transitions, and succession planning.

Minimum Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:

  • Bachelors degree in nursing
  • Minimum two (2) years nursing experience
  • Current, valid Florida State of Nursing license as a registered professional nurse
  • Advanced Life support certification (ACLS, PALS, NRP) per specialty/unit requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in nursing or related field
  • Prior experience as a preceptor/educator
  • Previous teaching experience in formal/informal settings
  • Experience in specialty area applying for
  • Certification in Nursing Professional Development (NPD)
  • Certification in clinical specialty
