SUMMARY OF OVERALL PURPOSE
The Marketing & Communications Director is responsible for defining and executing a cohesive marketing and communications strategy that elevates Give Kids The World’s brand, supports fundraising and programmatic goals, and amplifies awareness of our mission. This role leads both external and internal communications, oversees creative content development, and ensures consistency in brand voice, identity, and messaging. The Marketing & Communications Director supervises a high performing marketing & communications team, manages external media & partner relationships, and drives measurable results through data driven strategies.

Indirect Reports: Support staff, specialists, content creators, freelancers or agencies as needed.

Key Accountabilities
Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement integrated marketing & communications strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Set brand positioning, narrative, voice, and messaging across all channels.
- Plan annual marketing/communications calendars & campaign timelines.
- Lead competitive, audience, and market analysis to inform strategy.
- Oversee creation of content (digital, print, video, social media, email, etc.) ensuring consistency and brand integrity.
- Lead creative direction, storytelling, and design standards.
- Maintain brand guidelines, usage, voice, and style across all platforms.
- Manage external communications: media relations, press releases, speaking opportunities, crisis communications.
- Build thought leadership platforms for senior leadership (e.g., CEO).
- Oversee internal communications: newsletters, intranet, leadership messaging.
- Secure local and national media coverage and partnerships.
- Lead, coach, and mentor marketing & communications team members.
- Set performance goals, conduct evaluations, provide feedback and professional development.
- Foster collaboration across departments to ensure alignment on messaging and campaigns.
- Define KPIs and measure the effectiveness of marketing & communications initiatives.
- Use analytics to refine strategies and decision-making.
- Oversee departmental budget, expenses, and ensure financial discipline.
- Evaluate tools, platforms, and vendor relationships to scale operations efficiently.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OUTSIDE NORMAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Standard office environment; occasional in person events, photo & video shoots.
- Ability to travel locally and nationally, with occasional overnight travel.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends to support events or campaigns.
- Ability to lift and transfer up to 25 lbs. for event setups or materials.
SKILLS, COMPETENCIES, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated expertise in brand development, content creation, and storytelling across digital & traditional channels.
- Strong PR/media relations experience, including crisis or reputation management and securing local and national coverage.
- Proficiency in analytics tools, content management systems, marketing automation, and social media platforms
- Expert knowledge of social media platforms, including their best practices.
- Proven ability to write and edit high quality content across various formats.
- Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, tact, professionalism and integrity.
- PC skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.)
- Able to operate a motorized vehicle, including a battery operated golf cart.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Must meet acceptable attendance and punctuality requirements, which are essential functions for the position.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in marketing and communications roles, including at least 3 to 5 years in leadership/management
- Master’s Degree or advanced certifications (e.g. in marketing, communications, digital strategy)
- Experience working on fundraising campaigns, sponsorships, event marketing.
- Familiarity with web & SEO best practices, video content creation, influencer marketing.
