BITCO Corporation, headquartered in Davenport, Iowa, is seeking a Litigation Specialist to join our team. With 11 branch offices in 10 states, BITCO provides quality property and casualty insurance services to specialized industries including construction, forest products and oil & gas. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule and the opportunity to collaborate with a dedicated team in a dynamic and industry-focused environment.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for independently and proactively overseeing assigned claims to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient development of litigated files and/or claims with significant exposure. Provide strategic oversight, guidance, and actionable feedback on individual claim files to Regional Claims Managers, Supervisors, and other claims personnel. Responsibilities may also include oversight of files managed by third-party administrators (TPAs).

Primary Responsibilities
- Provides expert input, authority, and guidance on claims litigation management, reserving practices, and appropriate claim resolution strategies.
- Interprets policy terms and conditions for automobile and general liability lines, understanding the principles of tort and contract law, procedures, claim reserving as to adequacy and timeliness and in investigating and reporting on claims, including addressing relevant claims and legal issues
- Oversees claim file development and coordinates with claims managers, supervisors, and third-party administrators (TPAs) to ensure proper file handling.
- Monitors and ensures timely and appropriate, comprehensive reporting from outside counsel on litigated claims, including trial schedules, mediation dates, status updates, pre-trial reports or other critical proceedings.
- Advises management promptly and accurately on issues within scope of responsibility.
- Travels as needed to claim reviews, attorney meetings, mediations, trials and strategy conferences
- Provides guidance and assistance to claims managers/supervisors and/or other claims personnel on appropriate claims handling practices and techniques
- Leads or collaborates on special projects and assignments as directed by management.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Minimum of 7 years of experience with the following:
- Coverage Review – interpreting policies, agreements, issuing reservations of rights letters and disclaimers
- Claims Investigation – Statements, authorizations, retention of qualified experts
- Claims Administration – Reports, review reserves, compliance knowledge of laws and procedures
- Claims Settlement – Provide guidance and direction for the appropriate resolution of litigated matters
- Must be service-oriented, with the ability to provide prompt, efficient, and effective claims handling and customer service
- Proven ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and outside counsel
- Ability to clearly, accurately, and effectively communicate, both orally and in written correspondence both internally and externally, including with our customers, claimants, outside counsel, regulators and members of the public
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Office environment; this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, as directed by manager
- Frequently sit at a desk or other work station for extended periods of time
- Occasionally lift and carry equipment and/or materials weighing up to 15 pounds
- Routinely bend, kneel, reach, see, be mobile and walk around
- Must be able to attend and perform job duties effectively both in-person and virtually, as required by manager
- Travel by air or car, as required by manager; Must have valid driver's license
