AMESBURY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

AMESBURY, MA

The Amesbury School Committee invites exceptional candidates to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools.

About The Amesbury Community

Amesbury is a small city on the north shore of Massachusetts. Bordering southern New Hampshire and situated at the junction of I-95 and I-495, Amesbury offers easy access to larger metropolitan areas such as Boston, Portsmouth, NH, and Portland, ME. Amesbury is a tight-knit, hard-working, and growing community. Incorporated in 1668, the city’s history is an important part of what makes its community a special place to live, work, and play. The city’s leadership is committed to maintaining historic charm and open spaces, while also supporting smart development to help the community grow. Historic mill buildings in the downtown area were once home to the country’s leading carriage and automobile manufacturers, and are where new restaurants, offices, shops, artist studios, and the site of the new Industrial History Center now reside. Amesbury has 1000+ acres of open space and more than 20 miles of trails, paths and cycleways, along with lakes and rivers for outdoor recreation year-round.

About Amesbury Public Schools

Amesbury Public Schools is led by a seven-member School Committee and serves 1,819 students in five schools:

  • Sergeant Jordan Shay Memorial Lower Elementary School: PreK – 2

The FY 2026 school district budget is $43,461,473 (inclusive of grants, state, and federal funding). The recently opened Sgt. Jordan Shay Memorial Lower Elementary School is welcoming young and increasingly diverse families, enhanced by the recent Playful Learning grant which exemplifies educators’ commitment to learning and professional development. Amesbury’s teachers are highly qualified, intensely dedicated to their students, and have many years of tenure in the district. When asked about what makes Amesbury’s schools unique, the most common response across students and families is the close relationships teachers have formed with their students. Parents are committed to supporting their children’s education and well-being through School Site Councils, Special Education Parent Advisory Council, Boosters, and a variety of activities and clubs.
