Oakland Promise is working to ensure that every Oakland child will graduate from high school with the expectation, skills, and resources to complete college and be successful in the career of their choice. Oakland Promise includes four programs: Brilliant Baby, Kindergarten to College (K2C), Future Centers, and College Scholarships and Completion, that provide a cradle to career continuum of college-focused support for students. Our program strategies touch the lives of children and families in early childhood (ages 0-5), elementary, middle, and high school, culminating in multi-year scholarships and support for students in college. Our goal is to dramatically increase the number of college graduates from Oakland and ensure that all

students, regardless of background, hold a college-bound identity. Oakland Promise provides two-year and four-year college scholarships and mentoring to Oakland public high school students. We are especially interested in skilled individuals committed to social change, who want to ensure the success of students underrepresented in college, attend, and graduate and expand their life opportunities. College Completion serves over 2000 scholars in postsecondary education.

The Kindergarten to College (K2C) team helps K through 5th graders in Oakland think of themselves as college-and career-bound individuals. We provide scholarships, as well as technical support and incentives to families who open a family-owned college savings account. Additionally, we provide program support to build a college- and career-going identity within students, which includes Cal Day, college visits, family and student workshops, scholarship celebrations, and more.

The Kindergarten to College team is the elementary school program component of our K-12 team. More broadly, Kindergarten to College is one of four programs within Oakland Promise working to ensure that every child will graduate from high school with the expectation, skills, and resources to complete college and/or be successful in the career of their choice.

The K2C Elementary Program Associate will be responsible for maintaining K2C programming at Oakland public elementary district & charter schools, as well as building out and managing K2Cs social media content. K2C strives to ensure that all Oakland Elementary students as well as their families build a college bound identity and see themselves in higher education spaces. This role will be critical to this work, but serving directly in schools and using various platforms to promote this messaging.

Under the supervision of the Manager of K2C, the Elementary Program Associate will:

Duties & Responsibilities

Kindergarten to College Implementation

  • Ensure that a cohort (7-9) of our K2C schools implement the program with fidelity
  • Organize and lead K2C programming: celebration/workshops/college/career events
  • Support additional engagement events that drive towards schools K2C goals
  • Attend and support K2C specific and org wide tabling and other events.
  • Conduct site visits - in-person or virtual - to continue to cultivate relationships with K2C school-based teams
  • Communicate Oakland Promise-wide events
  • Train school staff to facilitate K2C informational meetings with parents/students & support at CSA sign up events
  • Design and implement outreach events to engage families in K2C program
  • Maintain accurate and updated school records - logging, tracking and analyzing school cohort data regularly

Communications

  • Manage K2Cs social media presence - design outreach strategy, create content for platforms, and increase following and engagement on various platforms
  • Create reels and other video content to highlight work of our K2C and College Access teams (please note that while this person will mainly be on the K2C team, there are cross-functional roles like this that are included.)
  • Create video content to engage students and families.
  • Create program flyers and graphics for our K2C and College Access teams
  • Maintain communication and support work with current partnerships.

Program Content & Infrastructure Development

  • Support with K2C content and ranging from student-facing to family-facing materials
  • Support with community partnership outreach and build out
  • Support with data and other program infrastructure, i.e. texting platforms used to engage with families.

Other

  • Research CSAs, college going culture, etc. as needed
  • Be a team player and support with general Oakland Promise events
  • If bilingual, provide translation and/or interpretation support
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 1 year of experience working with under-resourced youth and successfully managing impactful projects. Alternatively, an Associates degree with a minimum of 3 years experience in the same capacity will also be considered.
  • Deep commitment to educational equity
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent attention to details, and ability to manage multiple competing deadlines required
  • Excellent interpersonal and writing skills
  • Experience with marketing, social media, graphic design, and communications tools and techniques
  • Experience with developing & executing community outreach strategies
  • Some evening and weekend hours will be required
  • Own vehicle/transportation for travel to sites
  • Creative individual that is willing to implement a variety of engagement strategies
  • Intrinsically motivated individually that is respectfully persistent when needed and empathetic

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate in another language other than English
  • Experience creating and modifying training materials
  • Experience in education, direct experiences in schools with students, families and community preferred
  • Management, education policy and/or teaching experience preferred

Compensation

  • Full-time exempt position
  • The hiring salary range for this role is $66,560 - $68,000 based on skill sets and experience.

Oakland Promise is a place-based organization located in Oakland, California. Oakland Promise requires that employees work in person at various engagements. Currently, Oakland Promise staff are working in a hybrid model, with some work being done remotely and some work being done in the office or at specific locations in or around Oakland.
