American National Insurance Company was founded in 1905 and is headquartered in Galveston, TX, with several locations across the US: League City, TX, Houston, TX, Springfield, MO, and Glenmont, NY. Our Internship Program is designed to provide young professionals with corporate experience that is not offered in the classroom. In addition to supporting their respective department, each intern will have the opportunity to attend professional development sessions, volunteer within the community, and attend company-sponsored social events.

Our 2026 summer internship program begins on Monday, June 1st and ends on Friday, August 7th. Intern positions are paid hourly with a full-time schedule (Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week) for the entirety of the program.

Internship Program Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited institution
  • Must hold a Junior standing or higher (May 2026 grads are welcome)
  • Must possess a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must be able to commit 37.5 hours per week Monday-Friday
  • Must be able to work onsite in the posted location of the role

Team Description

Our team conducts annual testing of key SOX controls and provides direct assistance testing to support the financial statement audit. This intern position will support upcoming projects, ensuring alignment with other Brookfield operating companies and future integration with the ANGI Internal Control over Financial Reporting teams. This opportunity is crucial for our growing portfolio.

What We’re Looking For

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or be working towards a bachelor's degree in accounting. They should be interested in pursuing a CPA or CIA license and learning about the insurance industry.

What You Can Expect To Do In The Role

You will attend design and implementation walkthroughs for key controls, document conclusions of testing in Workiva, prepare work papers for interim operating effectiveness testing, and collaborate with various business areas, the ICU team, and external auditors. Additionally, the intern will assist with testing to support the financial statement audit, assist with journal entry testing, and other special projects focusing on further alignment of the ICFR framework within Brookfield's operating companies. There may also be opportunities to assist with data analytics for the IAS department too.

Skills You Can Expect To Improve And/or Develop

You will gain an understanding of our business and IT processes within the ICFR program. Additionally, they will learn how to document design and implementation testing for key controls, prepare workpapers to support conclusions, and report issues/deficiencies to management teams.

Tools & Software

The intern will use numerous systems including accounting software, billing systems, policy administration systems, imaging systems, claim systems, and standard Microsoft products. Specifically, they will use Workiva, SAP, Insight, Dayforce, and Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
