To qualify for the GS-11 level, for both Cartographer and Geographer series, applicants must have one full year of specialized experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled. The qualifying specialized experience must be equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service, and must have equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

DutiesAs an Interdisciplinary Cartographer/Geographer within the National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC), some of your specific duties will include:
- Develop and monitor projects designed to provide geospatial data and/or services under appropriate USGS contracts.
- Set project cost estimates and schedules to meet customer and partner requirements.
- Work with a variety of internal and external customers and partners to establish partnerships and/or modify product and service specifications.
- Work to expand the number of cooperating agencies and organizations in support of geospatial information needs.
- Provide technical support to management on policies, standards, specifications, and guidelines related to geospatial data and technology development and for the advancement of the National Spatial Data Infrastruture (NSDI).
- Participate in the evaluation of technical proposals using potential contractor's prior performance, technical capability, capacity, and equipment.
- Applicants must be U.S. Citizens.
- Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
- Selectee may be subject to serving a one-year probationary period.

- BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
- CARTOGRAPHER, GS-1370: At all grade levels, applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Cartographer series GS-1370.
- Degree: cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e. college-level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites).
- OR
- Combination of education and experience-courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a minor that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in "A" above, plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above. - GEOGRAPHER, GS-0150: At all grade levels, applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Geographer series GS-0150.
- Degree in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
- OR
- A combination of education and experience-- courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semesters hours in geography or related fields, as shown in "A" above, plus appropriate experience and/or additional education. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above. - Research geospatial industry and market conditions to develop customer requirements for geospatial data collection, including Lidar and/or aerial photography.
- Support the planning and development of federal contracts or task orders.
- Track, monitor, and report on federal task orders
Examples Of GS-11 Level Work May Include
- Develop custom technical management policies, standards, specifications, and guidelines related to geospatial data collection and technology development.
- Research and communicate to senior management federal reimbursable agreement and spending authorities and the impacts to programs and projects to senior management staff
- Analyze reimbursable agreement and federal spending and procurement policies, procedures, and workflows related to inter- and intra-agency agreements.
