Job Description

INSTRUCTIONAL COACH - JUPITER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Primary Function

The Instructional Coach is responsible for implementation and delivery of a variety of personal enrichment activities enabling youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines and apply learning to everyday situations. The Instructional Coach consistently work to provide a positive learning environment and promote the personal, social, and intellectual development of club members. The Instructional Coach works in collaboration with certified teachers in implementing curricula that meets 21st CCLC program goals.

Key Roles (Essential Responsibilities)

  • The Instructional Coach is trained to conduct a well- rounded program in the areas of STEM, Cultural Arts, SMART (Skills Mastery and Resilience Training), Sports & Fitness, and Career Readiness.
  • Develop and follow weekly lesson plans supporting 21st CCLC goals under the direction of Site Coordinator and Project Director.
  • Post weekly plans for parents/guardians and youth.
  • Encourage full participation in activities.
  • Identify alternative activities that correspond with weekly lesson plans to promote full participation.
  • Supervise and monitor program areas to ensure safety of members.
  • Participate in staff meetings and collaborate with Club team.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate standards of behavior and create a positive learning environment that shows a commitment to students and their successes
  • Design and deliver instruction to students and engage students in meeting the objectives of the lesson.
  • Monitor students’ understanding of the lesson and adjust teaching when appropriate
  • Demonstrates positive values, and ethical behavior through quality in programs.
  • Maintains positive relationships with members, their parents and/or guardians.
  • Displays a high level of enthusiasm and commitment for activities.
  • Maintains accurate program and attendance records and submits them in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to established time schedules.
  • Support the delivery of program and calendar activities to Club members.
  • Increase visibility of programs via posting of schedules, announcements of upcoming events and dissemination of information for the development of advertising and promotion.
  • Submit statistic and activity reports in a timely manner.
  • Recognize and react quickly to problems – arguing, fighting and horseplay and stop the undesirable activity quickly, both in-person and/or virtually.
  • Work in non-air conditioned, or heated facilities, or outdoors as needed.
  • Immediately correct safety concerns: water on floor, equipment not stored correctly, etc.
  • When needed pick-up supplies and bring to the appropriate Clubsite.
  • Clean and store any equipment.
  • Monitor and evaluate Cultural Arts programs, services, and activities to ensure safety of members and quality in programs.
  • Supervise Club members as needed.
  • Enforce Boys & Girls Club Rules.
  • Be a good example and a good listener to members.
  • Ensure children obey safety rules.
  • Ensure all children are accounted for as needed.

Relationships

  • Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer) Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
  • External: Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents, and others to assist in resolving challenges.

Skills & Knowledge Required

  • Some college preferred.
  • Experience working with children or in a structured educational setting preferred.
  • Ability to create age-appropriate activities.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and pertinent software applications.
  • Ability to develop and oversee projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to create positive and professional relationships with other employees and Club members.
  • Strong verbal, listening and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, ZOOM, etc.).
  • Ability to distinguish when it is time to discipline and time to counsel members.
  • Ability to enforce Boys & Girls Clubs rules and policies in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license – able to meet insurance requirements (drive to different Club Sites and Administrative Office and/or off-site meetings/training as required for the position). CDL Class B License with P&S endorsement is a plus.
