What You'll Do
The Immunization Consultant will act as a consultant for all aspects of the Immunization Program in the Bureau of Infectious Diseases. This will include the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, the Immunization Quality Improvement Program (IQIP) and the School Immunization Program. Additional duties may include:
providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting (e.g., program
evaluations, working with grants, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating, working collaboratively with
coalitions or groups); must be able to provide own transportation.
OR
Completion of undergraduate core coursework in public health, health care, health administration or related field; 18 mos.
exp. in providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting (e.g.,
program evaluations, working with grants, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating, working
collaboratively with coalitions or groups); must be able to provide own transportation.
OR
Equivalent Of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment Noted Above

The Ohio Department of Health supports a hybrid teleworking model. This position may work a hybrid schedule at the discretion of the manager or supervisor, which will require occasional attendance in the office for training, meetings and other operational needs. Employees must reside within a reasonable distance to their assigned headquarters for compliance with workplace reporting requirements.
The goal of the Bureau of Infectious Diseases (BID) is to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases (e.g., foodborne outbreaks, general infectious diseases, healthcare-associated infections, influenza, meningitis, tuberculosis, vaccine-preventable diseases, waterborne outbreaks, zoonotic diseases and vector-borne diseases).
The Immunization Consultant will act as a consultant for all aspects of the Immunization Program in the Bureau of Infectious Diseases. This will include the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, the Immunization Quality Improvement Program (IQIP) and the School Immunization Program. Additional duties may include:
- monitors provider activity/performance against program requirements, identifies problems and provides corrective actions
- educates providers (e.g., physicians, medical staff) on current immunization details and procedures
- assists with planning, assessment, and problem-solving (e.g., schedules and procedures for childhood, adolescent and adult immunization practices, indications and contraindications, barriers, exclusion and exemption policies, etc.)
- assists with development and maintenance of record systems, reminder and recall efforts, computerized assessment techniques, proper vaccine handling and storage
- routine or ad hoc assessments (e.g., risks, needs, outcomes, etc.) to enhance program quality and support local public health systems.
- assistance with development of relevant policies, procedures, codes, regulations and legislation.
- tracking health objectives
- recordkeeping and reporting (e.g., status of reviews performed, compliance issues, follow-up plans).
- development/coordination/delivery of training and health education/promotion activities.
- partnering with various communities to implement and reinforce health promotion programs.
- assistance with grant applications, grant reviews, and monitoring spend to budget
providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting (e.g., program
evaluations, working with grants, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating, working collaboratively with
coalitions or groups); must be able to provide own transportation.
OR

- Experiencing presenting, training, and/or public speaking.
- Experience working on quality improvement programs.
- Experience working with grants.
