Summary

At Rochester Regional Health, the Human Factors Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, usability, and effectiveness of our new innovative processes (clinical and operational) and products (clinical and operational). By applying principles of human factors engineering, usability testing, and user-centered design, the Human Factors Engineer will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create intuitive and efficient solutions that meet the needs of healthcare providers, patients, and other stakeholders.

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday days

ATTRIBUTES

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of work experience
  • Experience with clinical or medical devices strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including usability testing protocols, survey design, and statistical analysis.
  • Strong understanding of human factors principles, usability engineering standards (e.g., FDA guidance), and regulatory requirements governing the design and evaluation of medical devices and healthcare technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct human factors analyses to identify potential usability issues and safety hazards associated with medical devices, software applications, and clinical processes within our health system
  • Lead human factors analysis to prevent patient harm by applying the appropriate human factors methodologies, including the work system analysis, usability testing, qualitative and quantitative research design, workflow analysis, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis and any other relevant methods.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including clinicians, engineers, designers, and product managers, to integrate human factors considerations throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Design and execute usability studies, user interviews, and contextual inquiries to gather insights into user needs, preferences, and behaviors.
  • Develop usability requirements, user interface design guidelines, and best practices for the design and evaluation of healthcare technologies and clinical workflows
  • Evaluate prototypes and existing systems through heuristic evaluations, cognitive walkthroughs, and usability testing sessions to identify opportunities for improvement

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
