New York Magazine is seeking a new member for our collegial and nimble team of fact-checkers to help in the production of our biweekly, award-winning magazine. Fact-checkers at New York play an integral role in the creation and vetting of the magazine by working closely with editors and reporters to ensure the quality, accuracy, and fairness of stories in the magazine; they also work on digital enterprise features and reporting for New York Media's suite of sites.

PAY TRANSPARENCY

What You’ll Do
- Ensure the quality of the print magazine and New York Media's suite of websites through rigorous fact-checking, including, but not limited to, interviewing all principal sources, contacting experts to corroborate information and to evaluate the framing of material, and independently researching and verifying all factual claims in assigned stories.
- Communicate changes clearly and collaboratively to editors, writers, and copy-editors through all stages of production.
- Assist in reporting and research for the print magazine in conjunction with the writers and editors.
- Work closely with the magazine’s attorneys, in conjunction with the research director and editors, to identify and mitigate potential legal claims.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by manager or supervisor.
- At least 1-2 years of professional reporting or fact-checking experience required
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
- Ability to work collaboratively with editors and to communicate changes clearly and effectively, but with grace and humility
- Ability to effectively juggle multiple deadlines
- Detail-driven with a sharp eye for mistakes
- Strong understanding and affinity for the editorial sensibility of New York
- Previous experience fact-checking stories of feature length is strongly desired, but not essential for candidates who have a commensurate amount of reporting experience
- Fluency in a second language is preferred, but not essential
