The North Central Texas Council of Governments, or NCTCOG is a voluntary association of, by and for local governments, and was established to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound development. NCTCOG’s purpose is to strengthen both the individual and collective power of local governments and to help them recognize regional opportunities, eliminate unnecessary duplication, and make joint decisions. NCTCOG’s Environment & Development Department assists member governments in planning for common environmental issues and development challenges. The department has created and/or provides support for various environmental outreach and education programs in the region as well as various local and regional projects and studies. The Environment & Development Department is seeking a detail-oriented professional to join its team and assist with tasks for department projects and programs related to public works, energy conservation, regional sustainability initiatives, building codes, materials management, and other programs as needed. There will also potentially be times when the successful candidate is working on other department projects outside of these areas as assistance is needed. Tasks for these programs include, but are not limited to, coordinating the annual Public Works Roundup, facilitating webinars, workshops, and meetings, and collaborating with committee members and stakeholders. The successful candidate will also be working on tasks covering a wide range of sustainability and public works related topics including community/infrastructure development, energy efficiency and conservation, materials management, and more.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate with public works professionals to generate discussion topics, recruit speakers, and develop agendas, presentations, and meeting summaries for quarterly Public Works Council meetings.
  • Plan and host the annual Public Works Roundup, a one-day local conference. Duties may include surveying Public Works Council members, recruiting speakers, booking a venue, promoting the Roundup, coordinating audio-visual needs, and moderating the Roundup.
  • Support efforts to promote the public works profession to students at high schools, community colleges, and technical schools. This may include creating a speaker’s bureau and developing language for promotional materials, including fliers or videos.
  • Support updates to and maintain NCTCOG’s Public Works Construction Standards and Standard Drawings. This may include compiling suggested updates, coordinating with the subcommittee to address these updates, and responding to questions related to contents and purchasing.
  • Planning workshops/webinars on energy efficiency or other sustainability topics by coordinating with member governments and project stakeholders.
  • Monitoring schedules of deliverables and budgets and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Coordinating with local government members, federal, state, and local partners.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations.
  • Attending meetings and representing the agency and department within and beyond the region.
  • Conducting research and summarizing studies.
  • Proofreading documents.
  • Preparing program outreach materials.
  • Additional tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and at least one year and up to three-years related work experience.

Salary: $60,000 to $70,000, commensurate with experience

Additional Information:

Location: Hybrid Work Option. Employees currently work part of each week in NCTCOG’s offices in Arlington, Texas, and part of each week remotely from home within the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
