Job Overview
The English Program Supervisor (EPS) manages a team of ESL instructors and oversees curriculum
and delivery of the Intensive English Program (IEP) within UOPI’s pre-sessional and pathway programs. The EPS ensures the IEP curriculum meets accreditation standards, oversees effective delivery of the curriculum, and supports professional development of the ESL teaching team.
This role requires an energetic team player who has clear and effective oral and written communication, exceptional attention to detail, and strong organizational skills. Excellent presentation skills along with the ability to negotiate with students and colleagues are highly important. Demonstrated problem-solving, decision-making, and creative-thinking abilities are essential. This role reports to the Academic Director.

Essential Functions
Program Coordination
- Coordinate and manage IEP components including ESL course curriculum, course assessments, and Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
- Oversee and assist with day-to-day academic operations of support courses
- Function as the content owner and subject-matter expert for ESL products within the program
- Lead course revisions and changes within the library of support courses
- Function as the owner of local quality assurance measures withineach IEP course/product in local program portfolio
- Support or lead team efforts to obtain or maintain program accreditation as required
- Function as the first point of contact on academic concerns related to administration of ESL courses and maintenance of Intensive English Program standards
- Teach a maximum of 10 hours per semester of IEP courses as needed
- Develop relevant and appropriate lesson plans with clear objectives that align with specified student learning outcomes
- Utilize effective teaching strategies that meet the individual needs of students
- Adhere to university policies regarding academic integrity and related university academic policies
- Assess students and provide both formative and summative evaluations that measure student performance in attaining specified student learning outcomes
- Provide oral and written feedback to students in a timely manner
- Provide out-of-class academic support for students
- Substitute-teach for other colleagues as needed
- Maintain data on ESL course outcomes to monitor effectiveness of IEP curriculum and delivery
- Develop instructor teaching and tutoring schedules
- Carry out teaching-related administrative tasks, such as monitoring attendance and preparing students’ academic progress reports, weekly grades, and records of work
- Represent the program through participation in academic events, familiarization tours, and memberships and affiliations as appropriate
- Coordinate ancillary events and services as needed (ESL testing, tutoring, curriculum development, graduate assistantships, etc.)
- Participate in staff development and professional training as required
- Attend university and program meetings as required
- Recruit, develop, and retain team members to ensure productivity and engagement
- Engage in talent management activities such as goal setting, performance evaluations, development planning, and ongoing feedback to develop team members and achieve organization goals
- Provide coaching, counseling, and corrective action (when necessary) to team members
- Foster a culture that reflects Shorelight’s values
- Master’s degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, or closely related field
- 6+ years of related experience, including 4+ semesters in an IEP in a university context or an IEP affiliated with a Shorelight partner university
- Excellent written and oral English ability
- Experience teaching multiple levels of an ESL curriculum, including pre-collegiate, undergraduate, and graduate courses
- Demonstrated knowledge of various ESL and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) pedagogies and methodologies
- Experience coordinating international student programs and subprograms for development groups
- Ability to work in a diverse environment with cross-cultural competence and understanding
- Facility with class management tools, including databases, Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems, and forms of media to support an interactive and studentcentered classroom instruction
- Proven ability to clearly deliver lessons using communicative-based instruction, as evidenced by formal observation records and/or student evaluations
- Eligibility to work in and travel freely to and from the United States without sponsorship
- 4+ semesters in a Shorelight Intensive English Program (IEP) or an IEP affiliated with a Shorelight partner university
- Demonstrable knowledge of applied linguistics, second language acquisition, languageteaching methodologies, assessment, and curriculum/lesson planning; TEFL certifications (CELTA, DELTA, Bridge, or Oxford)
- Experience working within a complex educational organization and/or university setting
- Overseas experience or experience teaching in multicultural/multilingual classrooms
- Competence in a foreign language
